Power steering fluid preference

I was using prestone from walmart and my pump is whiny. Looking for a better fluid. What is your flavor?

I use the stuff from autozone and haven't had any problems.

Toyota pumps prefer ATF, I can't remeber if you swapped to a GM pump.

I use NAPA brand ATF Dexron/Mercon III..it's rebadged Valvoline.

I've been happy with Valvoline PS fluid and ATF in the Toyota pumps.

I am running a saginaw pump. I will try some of the valvoline.
Can I run Lucas in it eventhough its not atf that I am running?

Valvoline max life atf. Works great gets ride of the whine. I have done several flushes on noisey pumps. Nice and quiet

ATF only in all mine, everything I have run rebranded AW-32 AKA "power steering fluid" in has quickly dumped, foamed, or smoked it all out. It's actually a really common problem on Subarus, you buy one for cheap because the power steering is shot and leaking everywhere, drain and fill with ATF, and the leak is gone.
Regardless of the system, add a cooler. It'll extend the life of all the components, and will reduce fade when working it hard.

Try the Valvoline first, i've never had luck with Lucas and the info on www.bobistheoilguy.com seems to point to Lucas actually aerating and foaming the fluids it is added to.

I use hydraulic oil and a cooler and I have no more steering issues

I always used ATF, any brand, after 1970 and used Marvel Mystery Oil beffore that.

I run Royal Purple PS fluid in my pumps and every one I have installed.
