i notice a big difference with different brands of wire. the lincoln wire that lows home depot etcseem to be much worse about splatter than when i use hobart wire.

OK just looked at it, it's KISWHEEL brand. I'm almost halfway on the welding stage of this project, so I'll just use it up, maybe.....

you shouldnt be using fluxcore wire with gas. or gas with fluxcore wire.
Nor are you a weldor. ;)
I just glanced over the whole thread, and I didn't see anywhere he said he was using gas... Also, I'm not sure that using gas would be detrimental when using flux-core wire. Clearly the flux core wire is designed to be used without gas, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work as well or better with gas.

the only reason i said anything, he pointed out to me the way he had the gas bottle tied up to the wall when i was over there the other night.

and like i said i am no welder/weldor, but that may account for the splatter????

Yup using gas.So gas plus flux core = splattery welding?

I don't know that for sure, doesn't seem like the gas would *hurt* the weld, but the idea of using gas is to provide the shielding so you can use solid wire. Flux core gets it's shielding as the flux burns off, that's where all the powdery residue comes from. Solid wire is cheaper anyway, you might want to try that since you're already set up for gas.

try it with the gas off. can you do that? or do you have to make changes to the welder to weld without gas. if i remember right, my brother has to reverse the wires in the welder to weld with fluxcore and no gas.

keep in mind, i am not a welder. i am an observer. or is that observor?;)

Sorry I had to put this on the back burner for a bit. I'm taking the frame/body to RockLogic soon for a rollcage install. I don't have a tube bender and need some 1" .060 cage put in it.

sbr what kind of belt do you need?

the e scooter my boy has has a little belt that goes from the motor to the back wheel . It broke the first day he rode it and I have not been able to find one since then. The belt is splined and looks kinda like a vacume belt.

OK screw the 4wd on this one. Just bought tubing today for the roll cage and I'm going to do it myself. Also in the process of making shocks that will give 4"-6" of travel. I'm hoping to make some serious headway this week. Will post pics. Bet I can finish it before RockLogic finishes the "Punisher".
