I came down to Price this weekend expecting to run a JD with a few people, and to my suprise we had a whole large group of people waiting at Market Express! Turns out, JD was a post Moab trip for much of the group. Got to meet quite a new people and I had a great time, as I think everybody did.

To this day, I think these guys might be the first sheet metal rigs to drive Judgement Day. Although there were some slight hang ups and a little extra effort to keep some of these beautiful jeeps from body damange (these things had VERY nice paint jobs!) they managed to get through the trail pretty smoothly. These guys were a riot to wheel with and I respect the way they worked together to help everybody (and eachother) out on the trail.

The trail is likely less than 1/2 mile. We started the trail ~10:00 am, and got ended by 3:30. :D

And on to the pics... :)

Staging area. A lot of parking space needed. :D

Quite a few people came up to the trail and ran through the first obstacle. The 2nd obstacle (gate keeper) kept a few of the other rigs from entering the boulder pit.

These guys made short work of the first gate obstacle.

Now it gets nasty.

With the help of very good spotting and driving, this Yellow CJ made the gateway obstacle seem like a walk in the park.

Up and past the pit. Nice driving.

Judgement Day will find your weak spots really fast. Just past the gate, this guy sheered off the upper hi-steer arm on his d60 knuckle. They conclusion they came to was that one of the bolts had worked itself loose earlier, creating more stress on the remaining bolts... apparently enought to let go.

Very bad spot to loose steering...

With the tie-rod still intact, people began collecting spare parts to create a new tie-rod to connect to the lower mounts on the knuckles. A couple of heim joints, salvaged bolts from shackle supports, and some sockets for spacers and he was back in business to back his rig off the trail. Good work guys.

The rocks just couldn't swallow these tires...

Just a little bit of damage... nothing a bandaid can't take care of.

Great teamwork getting these vehicles through a lot of the tight spots paid off nicely.

Got kinda wedged in on the pit... Had to bring the 6x6 up for some support.
Nov_19_2005-075.jpg

This 6x6 made incredibly easy work of this trail with its ability to crawl completely sideways and avoid many of the protruding boulders. Simply incredible.

After the initial obstacles, the trial continues on through narrow and technical boulder alleys.
Nov_19_2005-084.jpg

This obstacle, I call the oil change (cause you can walk under the rig as it traverses a large gap) You have to be careful to avoid the loose boulders on the passenger side as you navigate through this section.

It took a lot of efford to avoid major body damage on this obstacle. Kudos to you guys pullin through! Once again, nice team work

Mark Patey taking a different line which opted for many photo ops. Unfortunately, this is when my camera died and this is the last picture I was able to take. The end of the trail was within 30 yards of this obstacle. Thanks for the great time guys, I had a hell of a time.

And I was in Provo in a car, :( . Great pics, but they still don't do those rocks any justice.

I wanna see these rocks. I've been dying to see Judgement Day in person for a long time. Someone's gotta show me before I start the suspention on my rig. I need to have a good idea on how much flex I need. Oh and Herzog you gotta help me get Mark back into the whole rock crawling scene! :D

Sweet pictures. If my rig ever gets capable enough, this trail is on my list!

bring spares :) it's nasty. For those of you who Did Helderado a couple years ago, what do you think in terms of comparison. (the difficulty of the obsticals)

Judgement Day

Wow, what an awesome trail!! Thanks a ton Herzog for leading us, Marvin & his wife for the company, laughs, cookies, & the other locals that were a blast to wheel w/!! That type of trail w/ the extreme degree of difficulty & great accessibility is a real treat to have in Price. We will be back again soon to check out some of the other great opportunities.

Tim

PS Herzog. Are you familiar w/ Constrictor & Rattlesnake? Maybe another guided trip in the near future???? LMK

I think Helldorado is a little bit harder, and if you include the last waterfall it's substantially harder.

I don't think I could make it through Helldorado without a rear locker...and while it certainly wasn't easy to make it through Judgement Day with an open axle, I did make it with no strapping or winching.

What did you run Judgement Day in Carl? Your buggy or something else?
