Propane

So I am thinking about swapping my ramcharger over to propane with one of the kits from gotpropane.com. I am just wondering if anyone on here has ran one or heard anything about them. It has a 440 in it I dont know a whole lot about the motor. I do know it has a weiland high rise intake a holley truck avenger carb and headers. It seems like it might have a small cam in it. I have only had the truck for about a month and Im just trying to figure out what to do to it next and the propane kits sound pretty cool any info would be appreciated thanks in advance guys.

I ran one on my samurai for over 3 years with no problems, cary at got propane is a good guy and his kits are top notch. It worked awesome, but I would not do it again if I had the choice. Finding propane is sometimes a pain, but not too bad, but it's usually more then gas.

Im running the GotPropane kit on my 460.

I like it a lot.

Yes, getting propane can be a PITA sometimes but I havent had to many problems.

If I was to do it again I would probably do the dual fuel kit. With the flip of a lever you can run gas or propane.

But Cary's kit is sweet. You get EVERYTHING you need in one box except for a tank.

For some reason I was thinking propane was cheaper than gas I guess I was wrong ont that. The other things I thought would be cool was that it would run on pretty much any angle and it would burn cleaner so hopefully pass immisions easier. I haven't wheeled mine to much it seems to do pretty good with the truck avenger But it's really cold blooded it has to warm up for a little bit or it will stall out when I try to get on the gas.

I don't remember, but I don't thuink the kits were dot approved to drive on the street, so maybe check into that. Maybe it was just the forklift tanks?

Ya I will have to check into that for sure it wont hardly ever be driven on the street. It would be nice to be able to not have to trailer it every where especialy when im in moab. I thought it said the kits were dot approved though ill have to do some searching.

Kits are DOT but the tanks cannot be mounted inside the cab. Might have a problem with a Ramcharger. The dual fuel would come into play with that tho. Pull your tank for inspection.

If you do get it legal tho.....you dont have to have an emissions test if you register it as running alternative fuel.

The propane is awesome for running on angles. Motor will run upside down no problem. My 460 is just as cold blooded on pane as it was on gas tho so I dont think you will get any difference out of that.

Propane prices have come down again. When gas shot up, pane went with it then took forever to come back down. It has been really close to the same price as regular unleaded for a few months now.

I saw do it tho. I ran the truck avenger before and the propane is SO much nicer for wheeling

I run duel fuel in the cruiser. 454 loves the gas and the angle agree with the propane. Kinda like having the best of both worlds.

I went wheelin the other day and the truck avenger did pretty good but I would like it to be better so this is more than likely what im going to do. Did you guys loose alot of power with the propane and how is mpg on the propane compared to gas. I do like the sounds of the duel fuel kit. It says on there web site its good for up to like 360 hp. I was thinking I might be pushing it on that but I guess if its working on a 454 it should be ok on my 440.

They say you can loose 10 percent on propane. I never noticed on the samurai, it didn't have any power. If your driving a big block does mileage really matter?

No mileage aint a big deal just kinda curious if I was going to have to worry about running out of propane all the time. I did some searching and it looks like alot of people are just running 2 tanks.

Ive got 2 10 gallon tanks on the Scout. Normal summer wheeling I use 1 tank a day.

I went on a snow run on new years and I actually ran out of propane. The constant spinning of the tires killed it.

This is a big block as well just for reference
