Provo is getting Google Fiber

but next time you log into your gmail account, take a look at all the nice "customized" ads they display at the top. How did they know I was looking at such and such... etc... well, because they scan your email.

..or....you know....they monitor what you look at on the internet with cookies. My ads are always relevant to what I've recently looked at, and have nothing to do with what my emails contain.

I think people just need to get used to it because it's not going away. Google mines data, plain and simple, and they use that data to allow online commerce to effectively target their audiences. People use that information to make money. This is 'merica after all.

I just read that the iProvo network (the existing public tax paid fiber infrastructure) was sold to Google for $1... which leaves the citizens of Provo to foot the failed $50M. Anybody know about this? If so, that is crazy. Dark dealings man... Either way, most probably won't care because the service will be faster/cheaper.
