PSC extreme duty steering box with stock pump?

I need to rebuild/get a new steering box on a 98 TJ. My two options are to either get a rebuild kit and rebuild the stock box. Or to buy a PSC extreme duty box. My question is will the PSC box work with the stock pump? Or am I going to need to get one of their high volume pumps as well? Thanks!!

I would say call them and ask if they do any internal work to the box. I'm not really sure what they could do to affect the volume requirements, but.. I would guess offhand that you'll be fine with the stock pump. Unless they're enlarging the fluid passages in the box, it shouldn't make a difference-- but I'd ask them.

PSC has different boxes for different needs. There is a stock replacement box that is a stock rebuild(33" tires adn smaller). They offer a Street and trail box that used the stock size piston and upgraded internals(35"-37" tires). Then there is the Extreme Duty box that has a larger casting and a larger piston(37"+ tires). Both the extreme duty box and street and trail box have the option of being drilled and tapped for hydro assist.

You DONT need a new pump with the stock box or S&T box so long as you dont run an assist ram. I would vote for a new pump with the Extreme duty box even if you dont run an assist ram... but is isnt a "Must have". I would definetly run a new pump with any box you plan on running a ram with.

The TJ stock pump is a pretty good little pump and will do a decent job running most steering systems. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Do they have a similar option for GM stuff??? I didn't know they made a larger-bore box, that's actually pretty neat.

Thanks Clemson! HUGE help!! I think I'm going to order just the extreme duty box for now and see how it does with the stock pump. Eventually I want to put a full hydro assist system on my jeep, but right now my wallet says no. Thanks for your help!
