Pulling Tandem? Who does it and what is your opinion.

No matter what happens your gonna get sued pulling one out two trailers wether its your fault out not

Why? If you are within the legal limits i.e. weight, license, insurance, and capacity. I think there is a possibility of a law suit but, the is always a possibility even if you are not towing a thing. I won't tow tandems again but, as long as you are within the law and you do it safely I don't see why you can't tow tandems.

I will and have anything .35000 pnd trailer with a three quarter ton Chevy duramax up eighteen to twenty two percent grade in the mud and snow chained up with a twelve hundred foot drop off just another day in the oil field. Just cause someone else says it is dangerous doesn't make out so. And as far as getting sued just plan on it and have good insurance .

wait, what are people going to get sued for? it's not illegal to tow doubles, you just have to stay with-in the law, which im still not sure is. 61ft or 65ft. front of truck to back of trailer? or just trailers? and i would be so much for a dually, but you can use what you have in this economy.. and i think my gmc diesel can handle a couple of trailers. but for now i just have the jeep trailer so ill stick with one.

If u get in an accident pulling anything chances r u will get sued wether they win or not. People r sue happy all I am saying is don't let that make your decision for u. Just pull the dang thing u don't need a dually or a bunch of other crap just drive smart and go.

I'm going to bump this back up, I'm coming home in a few weeks and need to get my 39 foot quad slide fifthwheel and the 4runner home. I am currently planning on flat towing the runner behind the fifthwheel. I am dealing with a lot of the same issues that are currently being discussed here (length weight and tow rig GAWR and GCWR) my truck is an 07 duramax 3/4 ton sbcc. I have towed an enclosed behind it with my chopper in it to Sturgis and it was no problem at all, although I assume the runner will be around 3k heavier than the motorcycle trailer. The truck deals with the fifthwheel fine, I'm slightly nervous with the flat tow to be honest, 4 states and 1200 miles in the northern US in December seems like it could add a fair amount of unknowns. I did just add a set of airbags to the truck to keep things level and smooth.

Paul, I know you said you have done this (kinda) anything you can remember that was an issue?

I flat towed a Jeep behind a 3/4 ton pickup for a couple years when living in the Northeast. The setup was predictably dangerous on icy and snowy roads. The combination of no brakes, being tucked up right next to the rear bumper, and the relatively long distance between the jeep's 2 axles allowed the Jeep to push the rear of the truck clear around if it wasn't on clean pavement. After a couple slow speed jacknifes and then almost getting the truck pushed into a 10 ft ditch, I gave it up and bought a trailer. Never had a problem with the trailer. Based on this experience, I would say double towing with a flat tow just won't work in the snow and ice. Might cross it all up at the 1st stop or sharp corner. Heck. I know a guy who chains up his 4WD truck and both axles of his 5th wheel camper when towing over the mountain passes when it gets bad. Don't want to mess around with ice and snow and towing.

Flame away!
I would love to see a build thread on this project. I think it sounds like a very cool concept.

I used to think this wasn't a big deal until I was coming home last year around Camp Williams and a truck with a camper and boat coming the other direction started swerving all over, boat comes off the trailer, the whole thing crosses all 4 lanes of traffic and winds up on the west side. Fortunately it was late enough in the day they didn't hit anyone but when there's a 40K ski-boat on it's side rubbing off the fiberglass across 4 lanes about 10 seconds from where you are it makes you think. I'm not sure what happened, I believe one of the trailers got a flat, I'm just glad I wasn't closer to the mess.
