First of all, I'll bet you that CD player you were interested in that that motor has reliefs cut in the pistons, or should have if there aren't to keep the valves out of the piston. I'll also bet you that there are other good 'ol american motors out there with the same reliefs cut in them. Second of all he had already mentioned the fact this motor was built with 10-1 compression, which makes the likeliness of the piston and valve coming closer even MORE likely. 10-1 is a pretty big number, it's not 8-1.

I know, Highboy, I am just throwing out all posibilities for why this thing wasn't turning over. Most of the people working on stuff like this know what they are doing, and it's usually the little, stupid stuff that is missed causing the problem. So if you start way back at step one and retrace everything, you can usually find the problem right away. Sometimes you get into troubleshooting it, and find yourself frustrated and start over looking stuff then, too. So rather what I'm throwing out there has any relivance in your situation is beyond me. You're working on it, not me, so I can't see what's going on. But by me, and others, tossing out ideas, you can check them off the list as 'Ive done that' or 'hmmm - better check that tomorrow'. Anyway...
