I know it is very very bad to drive without axle shafts (like wayne did and blew his unit bearings apart).

My question is, if I pull my front driveline, and install some outer stub shafts in the spindles and unit bearings, am I going to have any problems driving on it for oh.. say most of the summer while I build up some new axles?

I've decided to swap in some beef, but I don't have the time of budget to make it happen right away.

the problem with the 30 is the stub shaft hold the outer together. So you have to have stubs in even if you don't have inners, you'll need to stuff something in the end of the tube if you pull the shafts. is there a reason you can't junkyard shafts?

The R&P is making scary noises.
I was going to get it rebuilt, but I can' stomach spending money on the "cute little axle".
I'll axtually open it up and strip it, so I won't need to worry about stuffing the ends of the tubes.
So a stub shaft in the outer will keep it together?

When I broke my Axel joint and didn't have a replacement I drove on it w/ the stub shaft still bolted in place for a month or two. No problems.
