i know the Comanches sported the Aisin AX4 (four-speed), AX5 and AX15 (five-speed overdrive) manual transmissions, along with the AW4 four-speed automatic that was used beginning in 1987....

trnsmission though.. not axle...

Huh...hadn't heard of the AX4 before...something new to know :)

No guess on axle though?

the low pinion d30 that was used in a YJ?
or was that covered in the pffft no, that was a comanche bit of this?

AMC had a perverse relationship with Peugeot (tranny) and Renault (encore was the renault model,[AMC Alliance maybe?] and there was the Medallion by Eagle that was also a Renault) so Possibly it was a French axle?

it's gotta be an asian part.. same manufacturer of parts found on toyotas and suzuki's.. which is why i guessed the aisin transmissions... i'd think if they had something going with jeep at the time, maybe some axle parts too... but all i know is that the comanche had a dana 30 front, and a dana 35 rear with an optional upgrade to the dana 44 with a 'metric ton' package....

Nope...the axle itself

i don't unserstand what's so special... it was a dana30 front with 3:55 w/ optional 4:11.. and the Dana 35c is the axle most commonly found in the rear of the MJ... also 3.55 with 4.11 being optional.... Dana 44 was optional in some models with the "metric ton" package.
