I call BS. That would be like saying Lions back was part of it. PSH is half a mile away, and across a road.

Correct me if I am wrong, but Mickeys, Hells Gate, the Escalator and Dump Bump are NOT "officially" part of the Hells Revenge trail as per RR4W... in fact I know that Hells Gate and The Escalator are NOT... and Dump Bump is no longer since the actual trail head is now 100 ft past the Sand Flats pay station... so I beleive their rating does not include these obstacles... am I wrong?

you are right Kurt, but originally, dump bump WAS part of the trail, and it is what gave it the hard rating.

That makes sense, and now they make you go through the pay station to get into the area...

However this last year they fenced off the area in front of dump bump, so regardless of how you enter the trail, you have to pay...

Now thinking back, I had heard (possibly from old RR4W members) that Potato Salad once was considered part of the trail... they somhow linked the two trails prior to the landfill road bing there... anyone know more?

No I ran the trail with the safari twice on big saturday in the early ninetys It used to start on the road by the trailer park go across the river and Potato Salad was part of the official trail. You then went up the road by the dump and reentered the trail above dump bump on the fin. It is not BS I was there twice and I am not lying. I have a video of one year if you really need proof.

The trail head past the pay station was the entrance the two times I ran the trail with the Safari and there was no pay station at the time.

Down the river from the dam where the trees are. Maybe 200yds down from PSH. I am looking to see if I can find the safari paper from the year they did away with that part of the trail. I do remember that the river crossing was the reason to do away with that part of the trail. Seems kind of silly when you consider all the garbage that is in the river anyway.

Sorry to hijack more... :D

Quote from 4x4NOW concerning the Hells Revenge Trail:
[Patato Salad]no longer an official part of the trail and is very dangerous. Listen to him. Several 4X4s roll there every year and countless more break gears, driveshafts and axles. Potato Salad Hill is a series of gravel covered rock steps that just gets more difficult every year.

It was the good old days. John sensenbrener led. Both years the highlight was a guy in a white Chevy 1 ton, maybe a four inch lift and 33s. He would get a run at everything. he would be in at least 3rd gear by the time he hit PSH. One year he rolled it, the roof was flat even with the bed and hood. He got out, beat the roof back up with a slege and hit it again.

Holy crap, it's true! My friend was saying his uncle used to get a running start at Tater Salad Hill, and once he rolled... you get the idea. We all thought he was lying (he embellishes everything). But apparently you've witnessed this. Wow, my buddy wasn't lying. Thanks for clearing up a myth!

If his uncle had a 70s era white K30 it is true I bet Slic Pics still has the photos. They had the whole sequence on a proof sheet ask them for 92 93 or maybe 94. He did not just get a run at PSH he did every obstical at speed.

Moab didn't exist until mid 97. Anything predating this time is purely speculation and unsubstantiated rumor.

I agree, all you old-timers and your stories... :D

(truth be known, I am really a nerdy history buff that likes hearing about the old days on the trails, in the mines, at the bar, etc :D)
