Rattlesnake and Constrictor to be closed by the BLM!

Just wanted to go on record as saying that this will happen when the Salt Lake BLM Draft Resource Management Plan is released (should've been released Summer 2007, but it is currently delayed until late 2008 or early 2009). While components of both Rattlesnake and Constrictor cross or exist on private property, the access to those routes travels over public land. This is where the closure will happen.

10,000 miles of routes in Utah (4000+ in Moab alone) are marked for closure as a result of the RMP's that were completed at the end of 2007.

Multiple Choice:

What can you do to stop this from happening?

a) Post in this thread that RS/CON will never be closed
b) Post in this thread that you don't care because you'll just run them anyway
c) Post in this thread asking how you can help
d) Get involved in the process by volunteering with U4WDA to help us work our plan to prevent this closure

I am bookmarking this thread to be bumped after the closure. Please do not say that you were not warned or that U4WDA should've done something to prevent this. We have a plan to do something, but it cannot be done without considerable volunteer and financial resources which are not available. What is this plan? I won't even waste keystrokes on discussing it here, but I'm happy to discuss it at any U4WDA board meeting or volunteer project.

I choose d).
That being said what is the plan?
I can\will help. I know there are lots of others on here that can\will help.
But then what? Will it change anything?
What MORE can I do????????

Come to the meeting at the end of the month and you can listen to ideas. Go to the RMP meeting tomorrow night to see how things are done. Anything, time, effort, money.....it'll all help in the end.

I'm here to help, and I'd love to know the plan. I'll be at the U4 Meeting, maybe we'll have time to discuss it, maybe before or after?

I would gladly come to more meetings but it really is not practical to drive down from Logan. What can be done for those who can not be at the meetings? I know you said not to ask what I can do but I'm sure I'm not the only one. I get the U4WD e-mails and do what I can when comment periods are open, but is there anyway that the information discussed in meetings could be more accessable? Notes posted online, Skype in, conference call, record take away action items, etc... ? Maybe some of this already happens and I just don't know about it.

If you guys come tomorrow night, you'll get to meet me. That should be more than enough encouragement.

Not sure what Steve has in mind... but we need people to COME TO US, take the reigns and run with it. We don't have the time or resources to sit down and nurse folks through the project. Mabey Steve has a plan, but as far as I'm concerned we need someone to come up with a plan, and more importantly, execute it... I know I'll help in any way possible, but I'm burnt out on these current RMP's... I've donated literally hundreds of hours to U4WDA in the last 6 months... my personal life and business are suffering accordingly. Steve's situation is similar... we are hanging on by a thread.

As is usually the case, I do have a plan to save these trails and get all the "secret" trails in the same area legalized and on the books. But we need what you mentioned. We need volunteers who will come to us and put in the time to learn the game and contribute their time. It's the only way my plan will work. We are already stretched too thin, and we don't have any additional resources to make improvements.

I think there needs to be some carpools set up so far flung people can attend our board meetings.

Now atleast that's something to start with. That in it's self is a plan.

My negitivity comes from showing up at clean ups and the ones in charge can't give any direction, so you have folks that took time to drive to said place and stand there wanting to work but don't know what to do.
Don't get me wrong. I LOVE what the U4WDA stands for. I just wish there was more money to put people in full time positions. It would, in my opinion seem more organized.

That being said, I will take on more myself.
Again I love U4WDA!:hickey:

What projects have you been to where there wasn't enough work for the volunteers? We usually can't finish everything we plan. We need more leaders, come show us what we're doing wrong.

American fork comes to mind. You might remember me, I asked where you wanted me three or four times, then I followed you right on your heels for ten minutes till someone started diggin.

I don't want to nick pick. You guys are totally fighting the good fight.
I can't show anyone what being done wrong. I'm just hoping ''WE'' can get more organized.

By the way, there's three people I wheel with, none of them are members of U4WDA. Come on people!!!!!

Yep, it is gonna take a lot of work to keep these open and get them on the map for the 5 mile RMP. Right now it is so much easier for the BLM to close stuff then to keep things open and since they are not on the map they already have we gotta kick some butts and work hard to get them on there. Once they pass that rmp and they are not on there, we are screwed. I don't know about you guys but five mile pass is pretty convienent for me to go to every weekend

Well, help us get more organized. Organize your own project, there are plenty of things to get done. Get your three buddies to join. Rely on someone else to do this for you and your access will be lost. Take it into your own hands! Thanks for coming to a project.

I would somewhat agree with dave on this. I know on the projects I have been on it seems like no one knows what is going on. I just guess it was due to the FS not giving the plan out for us. I still go to all the I can and I do support the U4WDA. I would also like to go to the meetings but due to me working nights it is really hard.

On a side not when is the next compass coming out? I have not gotten one in awhile.
