Rear Dana 60 disc brake options

I have a Dana 60 for my commando project that I would like to replace the small drum brakes on. It is a semi floater F100 axle and most of the upgrade options I have found are for the full floaters. I have done a lot of web surfing to see what I can find. I have seen three basic options for these axles: weld on brackets with GM calipers, custom bolt on brackets with GM calipers and newer style disc setups with the emergency brake that is the internal small drum style. I need to have a good emergency brake and have read that some people haven't had good luck with the Caddy calipers with the built in e-brake. Do the caddy calipers work well enough ? or should I look for a newer style type of disk setup ? The axle has a 5 on 5.5 lug pattern, is there a newer style setup that wouldn't require too much custom machining ?

I would have to call since I don't see what I need on his lists. There are plenty of eight lug conversions that I have found but not many 5 lug.

Dave,
i've been running the caddy calipers over a year. I did it mainly for convenience and saving time but if i had it over again i'd probably try a tcase brake.
The caddy calipers have worked great. But they are pricey, auto parts stores demand a core (although i found one that would take regular 1/2 ton calipers, not the caddy ones) and price them around several places. Prices for caddy calipers fluctuate like mad.
They were also somewhat difficult to bleed and set up. The custom cables running to them were $$.

These are some of the issues I've been reading about too. At least they have worked for you once you set them up.

Depends on which bearing pockets your axle has, but I know the Ford Racing disk brake kits are available, easy to put together, and include an internal drum-style park brake. (FWIW, the Tera kits are the same thing as those Ford kits too...)

I know for a fact that those kits fit many of the SF axles out there.

What size do the bearing pockets need to be ? or where can I find out the sizes they support ?
