I lost my original Jeep key. Dangit!

Luckily, I had thought to have a copy made at a place in Michigan before I left, and it was about $63. Sheesh! I don't know that I need that much security on my Jeep, it's probably not a target for theft. Far easier to take any number of high dollar items that simply lift or bolt off.

So, where can I get another transponder key made relatively inexpensively? I like the size of the OEM key, obviously, but I have heard its about $150 to have one made. :ugh: My replacement is much larger, but at half the cost, I can deal.

And since we are on the subject, I need to find a locksmith to open one of my Givi trunks, I lost the key in the move. If there are any locksmiths on the forum, I would gladly take it to you.

i know if you go the dealer with your vin, they can make a key off your vin number. i just did it for my jeep because my key was worn out. but i have a normal key. no transponder.

I guess I could pull the transponder part out of the replacement spare, and stash it in the dashboard, near the column, and get away with using a normal key. Hmmmmm...
