Rescue Needed Sat 5/28

So for those that don't know I buried my truck in mud last Thursday out in the west desert. I have talked to UP and they said Saturday would be the best day to get it (you have to go on their road to get to it). I figure the best place to meet is off of exit 62 on I-80, it is west about 30 miles from Tooele. That is where we turn off to go north. I am thinking we will meet there at 9:30 and plan on waiting 15-20 minutes before we head out. The more the merrier so come on out. It will take a little less than an hour to get to my truck and then I was thinking after we get it out we can play a little bit in the Newfoundland mountains.

Thanks for your help and I will see you there.

Keep me posted on how much help you are going to have.

I can bring out the wifes truck (fullsize on 40's with winch). I have plans to work on my crawler, but I will drive out if the help is needed.

Keep us updated on how many people you have going out, as if you have enough, I'd rather stay home and work on other things, but if you dont think you have the people to get it free, I could easily make the time to help.

Sounds good, it looks like so far it's just me, but we will see what happens.

Pictures of the stuck? and area surrounding it?

Seriously doest sound like an easy extraction. Snatch strap and a 30 foot run with another fullsize may do it though. Is there any solid ground? Is it just stuck or buried to the frame?

I didn't get pics unfortunately. Your right that I think it will be difficult. There is solid ground in front and in back of the truck. The problem is the solid ground was wet and slippery. I am hoping by Saturday the ground might not be as slippery as it was when I left it. I borrowed a x-jack from Kurt and I think it will lift each corner enough to get wood underneath them. From what I could tell the frame is sitting on the mud and the wheels are all dug in. I think it will take jacking up with the x-Jack at each corner and then put wood under each tire and then a snatch strap will probably get it. If that doesn't look feasible I think we can drive up and around and get in front and then hook a couple of trucks together and then winch it out forward.

I'm really just hoping that the ground drys up some and it will be a simple snatch out backwards but I guess we'll see when we get there. I'm going to bring all my chain and straps because we may be able to reach the train tracks and hook onto them and then winch it out but they are quite a ways away.

Well, I'm not sure there's a ton my truck can actually help with being a good 3k lighter and running 32" duratracks, but I'm still willing to give it a shot if you need the extra help, as long as you think I'll be able to get to your truck without getting stuck myself.

I do have a couple pairs of some pretty heavy tire chains if you wanted to give those a try as well. Tires are close enough in size that they should fit good enough.

Did you get your hands on a decent snatch strap? Thats one thing I'm missing in my recovery stuff. Have a few cheapy HF "recovery" straps, but I dont think they have much stretch and are more of a tow strap.

I may be able to help but I've got a lightweight rig and a winch plate that isn't exactly braced well for this kind of abuse. It really does sound like it's going to take a lot to get it out. If it's on the frame nothing is moving it unless we can get it up and off.

Edit: I'd feel a whole lot better if I could brace up my winch mount a bit but I don't have anywhere to work on it here (just moved into an apt). Keep us updated.

I have a couple of good snatch straps, so that's not a problem. As far as your rig getting to mine, that shouldn't be a problem. You could even leave it parked on the UP road unless we need it. I'm only a couple hundred yards off the road. As soon as we get a final count on Friday we'll figure out who needs to go.

Thanks Medsker

Would love to help out. But Saturday is a bad day for me. Promised my Mom I would drive her out to Duchesne and do some work on her property out there. But if this is still going on Sunday, I'll be available. Either my stock CTD for just raw yanking power and weight, or my LJ with winch for more creative extraction, whichever seems like it might be most needed.

A tractor would sure be nice. That's what it took to get my CTD out of the mud last time it sunk a couple months ago. But, I think you are on the right track. If it's dried out a bit, if you can get the frame and diffs free with the jack and if it can be safely approached in a full size, I think you'll be able to get it. I hope...
