Ate there Saturday and it was just awful from start to finish. For those who don't know its is the new owners transformation of Cafe Pierpont. My wife had a craving for the Cafe's awesome crab quesadillas. We were already there before realizing the change but decided to try the new place out.

The place was very quiet, just a hand full of customers and a equal number of staff. We waited for a few minutes until someone walked over and got us seated. We opted to sit outside which was a mistake due to the gnats. The menu is totally different and sadly no crab quesadillas. Over 20 minutes later my wife steak burrito hits the table. For $12 you would expect something decent but a small dry burrito with a glop of beans and rice is a little disappointing. Time passes, passes, at 15 minutes I have yet to get my food and we think about bailing. 20 minutes later my seared ahi salad is delivered. At this point we are having a pretty crappy time. The steak was overcooked and borderline inedible. My wife being a trooper pulls the shoe leather out and eats the minimal vegetation remaining. My salad despite its elaborate description had no flavor. 10 minutes later the waitress brings out a plate with sour cream/guack/salsa which should have been there from the beginning. We tell her the steak is over cooked and she said she would tell the kitchen. With the check she hands us a 1/2 off appetizer coupon for next time. Since there will be no next time I gave it to a group of ladies seated behind us. I left alot of the little things out that contributed to the craptastic expierence but you get the idea.

I'm done bitching..... thanks for listening.....don't eat there....and I need a moment of silence for the once tasty crab quesadillas that are no more :-\

Sucks that the food tastes like cardboard. lol

We had some ladies from our retreat downtown eat there Saturday for lunch as well. They said the food was really good but the AC was up so high they were freezing the whole time. She was telling me that the servers were in tank tops and short shorts and they all had goosebumps crawling up and down their legs and arms. lol

Unfortunantly I am the type of person who ignores what everyone says and does things anyways to judge for myself. lol. :p

Maybe as a last resort one night we might go check it out, though I do miss Cafe Pierpont. AMAZING salsa bar.

I ate there saturday night and for sunday brunch. Awesome patio. I had carne asada taco's and they came out quickly and they were pretty good. My friend had seared Ahi taco's and they were really good.

Brunch had good sized Mimosa's for $4 and $3 bloody margarita's which I really liked. It was their first day serving brunch so we were the test dumbies. The "south of the border benedict" looked awesome--but 2 of the 3 peopld that ordered it were mad that their eggs were overcooked. I had a breakfast quesadilla and it was ok, but my main complaint was that I hsould have ordered it sans onions.

Still, the nice quiet and shady patio made it a great start to a day.

It's not the same owners as Cafe Pierpont (at least I don't think so). The Sandbar is a national chain and I believe the people that own the Hotel (sucks!) and Socko energy drinks also own the Sandbar here. Gastronomy likely still owns the building.

I'm glad everyone else's expierence was better than ours. Maybe we were the wrong people at the wrong time. The windows were open and the temps was fine. Its true the waitresses were all in ripped t-shirts and tank tops (always a bonus). I got the feeling they were hired for their looks and not their skills (not a bonus).

I tihnk they are still getting their feet under them. There were some quirky issues (i.e. the waitress trying to explain that the kitchen didn't have the correct pan to cook an egg a certain way), but I chalked it up to their first day of brunch.

I left about 9:30 on Friday as it beileve it turns into the type of club I have no desire to be around after that time.

My gut feeling is that they are here to gobble up all of the gradn opening business, and then in about a year they'll shut their doors and move on. There have been a few chain bars that have done the same thing.
