Reversed Shackles?

Will someone explain reversed shackles, benifits and drawbacks? Some guy was try to explain all these benifits to me and well I need to know more. Thanks

I did a reversal to one Jeep I had. Drove it for about 4 months and put it back to stock. I just didn't like the "feel" of it. The reversal makes it handle a bit different. If you do it be careful to get your caster back in spec.

Owned, driven, and built many with both. It is 100% "Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge" debate. Some love it, some hate it, some have never tried it but read it sucks, some have never done it but plan too, and some don't know what it even means. There are some great online articles highlighting the pro's and con's of each, but what I value even more is some hands on driving. I have owned Landcruisers with both, and my current Cruiser has it, when done properly, I think it improves the handling significantly, while having very few fallbacks. Would I do it again, absolutely... Would I do it different, nope. Seting up the hanger points as well as the correct caster is crucial, without it you will hate it IMHO.

Now, who has seen a shackle-reversal-reversal (no, not setup by me or the way I do it )

since i sr'd my jeep i have experienced nothing but good reactions.
i love the way it handles higher speeds, it soaks up bumps beautifully! i actually really like the way it reacts when i climb a wall. i used to have coils and i hated the way it "banged" when i went to climb a wall and dropped off ledges. i felt like i was going to break my frontend everytime i dropped off a ledge.
i like the way my frontend handles more than my friends longarm xj. does his flex more? sure thing... but mine flexes fine and i don't see a whole lot of rti ramps on the trails.
i don't feel like you can really wail on a front shackle rig
let the bashing begin!

I liked evertything about how it handled- except steep climbs. It seemed to "push back". Keep in mind this was on a vehicle with an 80 inch wheelbase. As someone stated before; I think wheelbase plays a part.

This would be on my 79' toy. The guy I talked to said it's a must, thats why I ask, I have no problem doing it. Just making sure its "A Must."

reversed

I built mine with a reverse. Seems to work great. Had to put in a long slide driveshaft on the front. Front springs are custom Alcans and were built for the reverse shackles. I do like the approach angle I have without shackles digging into rocks. I would build it the same on the next one. But I have heard it bothways. If you use your old springs and leave the perches where they are you will probably lower your front differential yolk which may hurt driveline angles at full droop.
