The people who are trying to protect american intrests, while making a ton of money? Or is it the guy who is looking out for the best interests of hi own country while aiding and supporting our enemy (sp)?

I would like to say that based on what I've learned about big oil, that it's probably based upon some truth. It wouldn't suprise me if something like this has happened before. Money does a lot in this country and can definately sway people's opinions.

One question....what part of the movie was the Prince helping an enemy of ours? I don't remember that:confused:

Oh, and I think that in that movie, the real enemy was the US. We were willing to destroy a good future of another country so that we could maintain our profitablity with our oil companies.

I don't think that China is an enemy anymore

That is debatable, at least when it comes to energy consumption and demand for it, we are in direct competion with them.

I wouldn't say that makes them an enemy. More like just a competitor in a global market.

But isn't that in your best interests?

Not sure what you were referring to....

Depends on how you define enemy. But i would not call them a friend either.

I was refering to that keeping american gas (oil) prices low is in your best intrest, isn't it?

By destroying a countries future? I would say, that if that ever did happen, it's keeping a companies best interests in mind. A lot of what people don't realize is that we get less than a quarter of our oil from the Mid East

http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/brochure/gas04/gasoline.htm

19% from the Persian Gulf......might be less or more since that data is from 2004

Welcome to world history 101. I'm not saying that it is going to do him any good, but we all have to, and throughout history always have, looked out for our best interests as a counrty and all others do the same. Just happens that we are the biggest baddest kid on the block, and everyone wants to take a shot at us. We want what is best for us, and we like to help others also, but at the end of the day, we've got to come first.

The problem with that though is that if another countries ideas are different than ours on how things should be and we want something from that country, we force them to change.

I agree with that statement...... But why are we wrong for doing that? Do we need to apolgise to the rest of the world for being more sucessful? Apolgise for wanting what is best for us? I am not saying that in the touchy feely sort of way this is right, but in a practical sence, what else can we do?
Is it your fault for being born here into this prosperity that we call home? Do we need to bring ourselves down their level of civilation and poverty, or do we need to insure our current level while trying to make it even better for our kids. And if along the way we can help other countrys and peoples, so much the better.
I am just trying to be practicle.

If another country decided that they thought that we could do better by them (lets just say the European Union) taking over and changing everything to the way they thought we should be, is that right?

If they had the power to do so... who would stop them. I don't know if you can boil this down to a right or wrong issue. Like was stated before, it all depends on your perspective. What is right by me, may be all wrong for you. The world isn't right or wrong, you just do what is best for you and yours, flip off all the ugly XJs and do it all again the next day. I just don't see 7000 years of civilized (yeah right) human existance changing.
