Rock sliders for a 4dr JK - what would you recommend?

My co-worker has decided to make his first mod to his '07 JKUX: rock sliders. He came to me and asked what I would recommend. I know there are dozens and dozens of options, but I also know that some are better than others. Due to a few inherent differences between the JK and a TJ, I don't want to blindly point him in a direction that might not be optimal. Snooping around online, I see many people who say some JK sliders are much better than others... but after that the conversation devolves into a pissing match and it's hard to tell fact from fiction.

Body protection is the top priority here; style is a distant second place consideration. He is definitely looking for something with a tube (or the like) to add extra protection to the side. After that, we're undecided. Should he get something that just bolts to the tub? Does he need to go with a frame-mounted model instead? (I see some guys online who say JKs have thinner sheet metal than TJs, though I have no idea if this is true.) Like anyone, he wants to keep an eye on the budget... but if spending a bit more gets considerably better protection, he's willing to do so.

My knee-jerk reaction was to suggest Poison Spyder. Maybe there's a better choice?

So, what would you JK guys recommend?

I second this, after wheeling and installing numerous sets of teraflex sliders I am nothing short of impressed plus they are aluminum so no rusting and light weight. Wheelewagon on here had nothing but issues with his RSE steps and Natrbater has them now and seems to have the same story to tell. I have seen the teraflex sliders take tremendous hits and stay straight as an arrow....

TeraFlex sound interesting. It looks like they just attach to the body--is that correct?

As far as frame-mounted go, I see lots of good remarks about Shrockworks sliders. Anyone have experience with those?

Just to keep this interesting,

I'll fab a pair of my stock slider extensions for him, no charge, if he brings the 1x2 stock.
He can participate in any of the cutting/welding that he wants or I'll do it for him. (I'll let him paint them though)

I pounded those sliders pretty hard in the rock garden on left hand fork rd (off Blacksmith Canyon) on the way to Moki Dugway and they showed no sign of bending.

Just to be clear: his JK currently has no sliders or steps whatsoever. As such, he'd need, well... everything. I'll have to see if he can find some stock take-offs for you to work with.

I've got my stock Rubicon sliders he's welcome to. They're butter than nothing, but not by much.

I'll agree with the above, the RSE slider with the step is not what he'd want. Without the step they're awesome, and substantially less than the Tera version.

He can have em, they're not doing anyone any good sitting in my scrap pile.

Fantastic. I'll be driving to Murray today around noon, so I can swing by and pick them up. Will this work with your schedule? When and where can we meet? (Feel free to PM me the details.)

Today won't work out, I'm already at work. Let me know next time you're in the area and I'll meet you, or leave them where you can get to them.

I am happy to help facilitate the exchange. I owe both of you for helping me out with certain issues. BCGPER, let me know when you are free to pick up the sliders, then I can take them down to Dempsey.

The only issue i had with them was they were installed incorrectly. Make sure you install the nutserts correctly and adjust the motor's correctly and you should never have an issue. They are super strong though. They also make them without the step if you don't want the step coming down. The problem with those style and the teraflex ones is that you still have to drill out the body and put in nutserts which if you've ever dealt with suck. They are also bulky. If you're looking for a style that you can also use as a step, the tera ones are great and pretty gooded priced. RSE also makes pretty much the same thing in aluminum also. IDK which one is cheaper. If you're looking for just a strong awesome slider, I'd say the poison spyder ones that you posted the pic of would be your best bet. Probably a little more spendy though. Skippy and I both have basically that exact slider on our JK's and they can take one hell of a beating and never get into your body.
