My co-worker has decided to make his first mod to his '07 JKUX: rock sliders. He came to me and asked what I would recommend. I know there are dozens and dozens of options, but I also know that some are better than others. Due to a few inherent differences between the JK and a TJ, I don't want to blindly point him in a direction that might not be optimal. Snooping around online, I see many people who say some JK sliders are much better than others... but after that the conversation devolves into a pissing match and it's hard to tell fact from fiction.
Body protection is the top priority here; style is a distant second place consideration. He is definitely looking for something with a tube (or the like) to add extra protection to the side. After that, we're undecided. Should he get something that just bolts to the tub? Does he need to go with a frame-mounted model instead? (I see some guys online who say JKs have thinner sheet metal than TJs, though I have no idea if this is true.) Like anyone, he wants to keep an eye on the budget... but if spending a bit more gets considerably better protection, he's willing to do so.
My knee-jerk reaction was to suggest Poison Spyder. Maybe there's a better choice?
So, what would you JK guys recommend?
