I currently use a helmet camera for all my offroad videos. I have been using and adrenaline systems roll bar mount (with the camera)..I would like to also take still images using a standard reflex camera but don't know how to operate it remotely to only take pics when needed? (the set up I'm using you can find here )

I saw a cool small camera by Midland at wallmart for $80 . They had a mount kit for $25 included helmet,google and strap mounts.
