Roll cages..

Ok, i feel that one of the most important things anyone can put in thier rig, whether they wheel hard or not, is a roll cage. You just can't put a price on your safety, and more important, your's and others' lives.

I'd like to do something for my 4runner, and i've been looking at some different options. So, i thought i'd open it up for discussion.

Question: Custom Cage? Or Prefabbed Cage? If Prefabbed, Whose?

i have issues with lots of prefabbed, cheaply built cages. I hear too many stories of them failing, and seen it happen as well. Whereas, most cases with a custom built cage, it'll hold up... generally speaking.

So, my question is.. If you didn't have the funds for a custom built cage, Who has a Prefabbed package that has been tested, and is trusted?

Well i bought a tubing bender last Dec. and fabbed my own cage for my YJ. It was my first full cage. With the amount of steel i had to buy and time it took, i can say that it would have been much cheaper (and probably better looking) to just buy someone's bolt in or weld in cage. I can't speak for the quality and safety of some of these pre-fabbed cages. I can at least say i'm totally comfortable with mine and believe my family will be quite safe it something bad happens.

I ran into this over on pirate awhile back mounted into someone's ride.Never seen one installed in person but I've heard great feedback about them.
I like the fact that they are a pre-fabbed kit one can put together, that it is a fully welded cage and it cover's front to back.If need be you could tie a few more pieces in for more strength.

Did you happen to call Rocklogick about this today? I was in their shop and someone was asking about the essentially offroad cage. Check out Lowbucks build on pirate
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=418689
he used the cage with a little modifications and its exactly what i'm hoping to do to my runner. The thing I love about their cage is how you can still use the top.

I'd wait until I did. ;) That EOR cage looks ok, I'd want a little more triangulation, but.... I'm a little paranoid about being crushed.

Your going to have to let me know what you come up with. I am toying with the idea of doing the same thing.

save up a few bucks and let rock logic do it. they do really good work. the guy aaron down there is the man. he knows his shiz in and out like the back of his hand. it might cost 1200 bucks but who cares. once you do roll, as some of us have, you realize that there is no cutting corners or trying to save a buck when that un-expected roll happens.

Thanks, but i'm going to work for Summit Machine starting next week. I'll tinker over the winter and eventually build my own with help from the guys there... it'll be abit cheaper that way too... ;)
