Ron Paul Retires from Congress :(

We have more people in our prison systems (most for extremely petty drug crimes) than China or the Soviet Union. We need that room to lock up thieves, rapists and murderers, not 70 year old grandpa who smokes a little pot to relieve some pain (instead of dropping other narcotics like lortab and such).

He's retiring because he's not a career politician. He's a doctor who wanted to get involved and help change things. He lives an extremely modest life and doesn't subscribe to the congress benefits that all the other politicians do. Seriously, look at the house he lives in, look at his accepted congress salary and the fact that he refuses to accept much of the benefits that the gov gives congress members. He's not all talk by any means.

He's been in politics since 1976 (longer than many on here has been alive); what's the career politician cut-off?

How many 70 grandpa pot smokers are in jail?

A lot more than you think, and more than 1 is one too many. How about all the violent drug raids that targeted the wrong home and either wounded, killed or temporarily detained innocent people? It happens quite often.

and again:

besides, this isn't even the most important policy or subject of his. Everybody gets hung up on these things and they forget the larger issues.
