rtt what is needed to mount

im looking to put a roof top tent on my jeep what is needed to put one on do i need a special rack or will a home made work

If it is the Jeep in your avatar, it probably has raingutters. I would try and find a set of used Thule or Yakima raingutter towers and crossbars. This is the most secure and can be locked on to your vehicle.


What RTT did you go with?

Really depends on the brand of RTT and the mounting system your trying to use. Some can mount using a Yakima or Thule setup, two loadbars, 4 gutter mount feet. Others really need a better mounting system like a flat roof rack with 6 feet. Also you need to take a close look at your gutters, some are just not up to the task of holding 150+ lbs. Figure a RTT and mounting can be 150+ lbs, add two occupants and you've got 400+ additional lbs for a total of 550lbs. So make sure your gutters are up to the task.

Of course I know Nick but I wasn't going to get technical. So long as the two of you don't decide to cuddle I think the Jeep will fair just fine
