well look what you have into your 44...your strength is comparable to a stock 60...so for $800-$1000 you could have an axle with the same strength as you have...only downside is weight and size of the pig but for a trail vehicle I dont see those as major downsides...JMHO:D

BTW, I am into my front RC60 about $1100 and that includes high steer, warn slugs, u-bolts, few misc parts, and HD Rocklogic tie rod...;)

Well... Here are my overall plans...

I am putting on this 6" lift. I can fit 35's if I want to. SuperGper is the previous owner of it and he said u can fit 35's and only rub on the stock flares at full stuff.

My Dana 35 is shot, no question about it. So I am putting in the Rear 44 out of a Scout (has been lengthened 2" overall and I'm gonna run spacers to make it fit).

My dana 30 does have problems, the steering tie rod and drag link are not in the best condition. Rocklogic gave me a good quote for a custom setup using all new parts. I am leaking oil out of the driverside axletube. I gotta get the r&p changed to 4.10's to match the new 44 in the rear. Thats about it.

I am most likely going on a mission, so My mom is gonna drive it while I'm gone. When I get back I think I'm gonna do the SOA setup.

My brother told me to run 33's just so I can have more room for flexing and better gas mileage, but I dunno because my bro has like 4 sets of 35's that he doesn't use because he runs 37's on his rig so I might just run those tires since he has so many. With the 35's I'm gonna need a 44 in the rear for sure.

My 4 wheeling characteristics are not very crazy, I don't like to use a lot of rpms and floor it or bounce. I've only bounced 1 time and that was in Moab on Dump Bump. I try to be careful and go as slow as I can. So.... I guess what I am getting at here is. Do you think the 30 will hold up without upgrading shafts etc. if I run 35's on it and have it regeared to 4.10's?

What is your input on that?

thanks for all the info guys!

2 1/2 ton axles huh! that would be pretty sweet! :)

I see a slight issue with both the D30 and the Rubi D44......5 on 4.5" bolt pattern......Find an F150 and cut it down....same wheel bolt pattern, reverse D44. Similar pricing. You could also check into a set of Waggy axles. 6 on 5.5" bolt pattern and about $250ish from pick-n-pull.

Thats pretty much my thoughts. Couldn't you sell the scout 44 and and put that money toward a set ofwaggy's. The down side would be new rims.

FWIW I have a small fortune in my front waggy.

$150 from JY
$575 Steering, links, ends, flattops
$585 ARB
$150 gear install
$trade for gears/install
$650 warns/CTM's (best deal/purchase EVER!)
$200 on bard air to run ARB
$70 lockouts
$150~ bearings, brakes, etc.
$75~ ball joints

 $2600 into mine so I better run it for a while huh? :D All the rebuild parts add up FAST! I didn't reuse anything as far as bearings, seals, calipers, etc. I replaced everything I could think of.

I'm with you...

I'm into my front D44 for about:

$125 from JY
$100 Steering links (dom tubing & rod ends)
$400 Detroit
$250 5.13 gears & bearings
$720 warns/CTMs (I can't remember the real price...)
$70 Lockouts

So I'm about $1600 on my front axle pushing 38's without a problem and I still wouldn't trade it for a pig of D60 right now. Unless it had all the same stuff and shortened to 63".

Fullwidths suck. :p

I have seen a TJ D30 hold up to 35's with stock shafts. Also running 4.88's and ARB's. I know for a fact that this axle has survived a couple of full throttle attacks on Dump Bump and on Double Wammy.

My first reverse D30 'survived' a lot of things, and some of you witnessed it's final carnage on Rattlesnake last fall/winter.......(and the one currently in there will last a while also). I like the D30/Rubi D44 up to a point {they'll work great up to 33"--35" is pushing them and you're asking for issues with bigger tires than that}.

He's pushing the point and I'd suggest moving on to something else for the cost. The Rubi D44 is kind of spendy and will remain so as they are kind of a limited production type of axle, EVEN at dealer cost. Carrier is unique, housing is unique, gears are unique, 4.11 is the gear as far as I know, etc. COSTLY.........cheaper, stronger options out there for his plans, IMHO.

He's already got the Scout D44 with 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. RD44 (F150) or Early Bronco are the way to go on the cheap and available to match the drop and the bolt pattern he needs. You could get a set of Waggy's (6 on 5.5") that would work equally as well as the Scout/Ford combo on the cheap as well.

Well I don't want to buy new wheels. I've been trying to figure out how to solve this problem... What I've come up with is I need to use spacers no matter what because it is too narrow even after it had been widened. It is only as wide as a CJ. And YJ's are a little wider.

I have some spacers which are 5 on 5.5 and go to 5 on 5.5. I was then going to modify the 30 to 5 on 5.5 until I found a good deal on some wheel spacers on here which bolt up to a 5 on 5.5 axle, but will allow 5 on 4.5 wheels to bolt up to it. So I bought those and am going to use them...

I don't think I can get much out of the Scout Dana 44. The ARB Brass fitting is broken and needs replacement, and it needs brake work done to it. I think parking brake is shot too. My real problem is I need a solution fast because my Jeep is my daily driver and it's sitting in the driveway waiting for a new axle to go in. :)

I'm still not sure what the cost price is on that Rubi44 so right now that is totally out of the question. I think I'm just gonna keep the Dana 30 until something happens. I remember Rocklogic told me that their setup can be transfered from a Dana 30 over to a Dana 44 with slight modifications. So I might re-do my steering, regear it, then just watch fluid levels on it. When the time comes I'll then throw in a Waggy 44 up front!

Thanks for all the info guys!

Add gears, locker, install and steering and you would be at what I am at MAYBE. Not saying I have the best setup by ANY means, but it was on a budget and done in stages to an extent.

I am looking into buying front 60's for $100-200 a shot and selling them for resale and maybe I'll keep one for future projects. ;)

I agree completely, I wouldn't purchase the Rubi 44 unless it was at a killer cost, like maybe 500-600? And actually the gears are 4.09's, Jeep just wanted to advertise them as 4.11's:D

I was just trying to make a point the the d30 can handle some abuse, but I don't think that I would run it with anything bigger than a 35.

Geez Mike, if you had a nice brother I'd bet you could talk him out of his Waggy 44 with 4.10s and a Lockrite for a good price. Then you could just swap the shafts and maybe have one lengthened so you didn't have to run spacers up front.

Or you could just save alot of money and time and have high quality parts and i'll hook you up with a 44 Ford front hp with 4:10's that will bolt right in with your existing jeep...
Damn some people learn the hard way...

Good point! :D

Too bad he took all of the parts from his front end scout dana 44 and put them into the waggy dana 44 set it up for spring over and under and put on warn hubs and I think bigger shafts and sold it to some sucker for a lot of money!

Sucks for me right? :D
