Salt Lake to Salina, the scenic route

Saturday we got fed up with the heat and decided to go visit the kids in Salina. We decided to take the scenic route over the skyline drive. We started in Fairview canyon and made it almost to the turn off to Joe's Valley when we ran into a very big impassible snow drift. So we backtracked all the way back to Bacon Rind road and took it to Joe's Valley then went back up to the skyline from there. We then went all the way south to willow canyon which comes out just before Salina. The weather was much nicer up there and the wild flowers were everywhere. Saw lots of deer, grouse, a badger, and lots of cows which left lots of meadow muffins on the road..... I need to wash the jeep for sure now. Not a tough ride but very scenic. Here are a few pictures we took along the way.

That is a great area....surprised that part of the Skyline is still snowed over.

That part of skyline that is still snowed over is called "the cut", and it stays that way into August all the time. It is right near the Horseshoe.

I guess the only times in recent decades I have been up there have been in August (bow hunt). Shows what I know!

That's a great drive. I took my wife up there last fall for her first time. I grew up in the Huntington area, so I was up there all the time either playing in the snow or ?
