It's a PITA trying to paint them and keep the overspray off the body. I used a can of primer on the welds and underneath the pinch weld and then used a foam brush to apply Rustoleoum out of the can (not a spray can but a normal paint can at Home Depot) to the rest of the slider. It makes it really easy to touch up after a trip.

Good thinking.. I just sprayed like 3 cans of paint on em.. wasn't too bad. I used a charcoal bumper color to match the dark grey on the 4runner, but i think i might go with a slightly darker charcoal.. Still looks good though.

Well... "gray wire mod" is in the bag and working great... However, for my 4runner it was more like the "blue wire with red stripe mod"

I've heard a rumored mod of putting a switch on the 4WD system to allow for 2WD Low... More to come on this when i learn more/complete it with the help of a fellow RME'er

Couple of small updates...

The 'gray wire mod' turned out to be the 'blue wire with red stripe mod'... took all of 10 minutes to snip, crimp, and ground.

I took off the lower plastic bumper piece that was the root of headaches over the Swell trip 2 weeks ago...

Bumper will turn out similar to this setup.. Though i want to try to retain the stock fog lamps as well as the turn signals...

Used some QuickFist mounts to hold down a shovel and HiLift over the 800 miles traveled 2 weeks ago. They worked great! two u-bolts around the stock rack to keep em locked down. Not one issue arose during the trip.

Now that I don't currently need the HiLift/shovel mounted up top... i recycled one pair of Quickfists for interior Maglight duty. Fire extinguisher is held by the next larger style mount. I used big washers on the inside of the plastic interior for maximum strength. There is no play in the mounts. 6 bolts total hold up the fire extinguisher.

I haven't added much to the rig lately, but there have been some minor upgrades.. Along with wheels, tires, and a new antenna; the rig got a good work over at the dealership to keep up on PM items.. New CV boots, bearings, fluid changes, bla bla bla... The stuff that'll give you good piece of mind for long trips.

The two main items that i'd like to tackle and complete through winter are, one: custom storage over the driver rear fender; and two: More protective front bumper solution... probably TJM or ARB.. If i have the money I will shoot for a Shrokworks front bumper.

The rig runs great! I love this machine, and do not regret picking it up one bit. Sometimes i wonder what it'd be like to have a DC Taco, but maybe one day i'll find out... For now i'm enjoying myself with the Highlander edition 4runner. I do have high mileage maintenace coming up in about 25k more miles.. I'll get the timing done, and adjust valves and such..

Possible future bumper..

I'm diggin this bumper mainly for its price, but it also doesn't look so bad. I'd pass on the turn signals and possibly the grill protection.. The 4runner hoops look ok, and the taco version looks bad. I'd go for winch mount ready, D rings and recessed driving lights.. That would run $675 pre shipping charges.. Not too bad
