Spent some time with the Moody Clan in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado to escape the summer heat here in Utah. We stayed at some amazing places right off the main street in Ouray. One was a nice condo and the other a little cottage. We ate good food, played in the hot springs, explored the backcountry roads, and we even ran into Mesha (Dave and Jami Houle) in a little restaurant in Silverton.

We'd been to the area a couple times before, so we wanted to see some area outside of the normal trails.

First stop, Owl Creek Pass. This is the area where a part of John Wayne's True Grit was filmed.

We were greeted with a substantial rain and hail storm. It was magnificent.

Some locals on the way up to the pass and some of the scenery:

Owl Creek is a favorite of the locals, glad to see you found it! Love the Summertime hail storm pics, Colorado's mountains hold some surprises even mid-Summer!

We also did Imogene Pass as we heard that the day we were planning on doing Black Bear the FJC Summit had a group going. The FJC Summit was going on in town and of course on the trails, so it provided some nice eye candy in the form of some really sweet Toyotas all around the area. Several 40's, a few different 70 series Landcruisers, a really nice 55, and countless 80's. My brothers and my mother drove their car, and we drove our 4 Runner. Amazing scenery and views in all directions from the pass.
