Schwarttzy Trail guide google maps

Did they try and call you out for using their idea as your own inspiration?

If you're trying to learn to use web based api's or google maps specifically, then you're doing great and keep playing with your site. If you want to have the ultimate online resource for trail maps and offroad data, then give up now and find a new dream.

Why should I give up who has a site that I don't compete with? The only website that come close to me is ones that charge the users instead of advertisers. Also I'm the only one right now that sends links to communities like you guys that actually know the trails, instead of pretending to have been there or worst take someones word for the truth.

What problem where you running into?
I can tell you phpbb is the most hacked piece of open source software on the net. Version 3 is supposed to be better but it's going to end up in the same boat as 1 and 2 did. trying to block spammers becomes near impossible because they can circumvent the normal registration process.

Some of the issues I have ran in to after migrating to Vbulletin from phpbb are messed up forum permissions, messed up user permission, not all users get imported, urls are now all messed up (phpbb uses viewtopic.php, vBulletin uses showthread.php and thread ids do not match up, this will mess with your google rankings big time), userbase has a learning curve that some don't care for, etc. I could go on. It's easier (by far) to just pay the $100-$180 and do it right from the get go.

YMMV :)

Good luck on that.
