Scout 345 Engine Questions?

Hey all. I justy picked up '75 Scout II XLC with a 345, 727 auto, D20, D44s and 3.54 gears. I dont want this to become to much of a buildup, more of a low cost have lotsa fun type rig. If you have seen the Jericho Road video where they are in the orange Scout II then you have seen it.

Anyway, I have some engine questions. there seems to be some piston slap or rod knock, or sometype of noise coming from the passenger side of the motor. But it is not consistent, It sounds like metal banging around. Then it also causes the passenger side to smoke. I havent pulled the oil pan or the valve cover yet to check this cuz I am more of a tinkerer than a rebuilder. I am not quite sure I would know what I am looking for unless there is something blatently wrong. So what do you guys think?

If any of you would be interested in helping me figure this out / fixing this. I would much appreciate it. I know there are a few RME'rs in Stansbury.

The sooner I can get this registerable, the sooner I can check out the trails that are around here.

Oh yeah, I will eventually be using this truck for Search and Rescue as well as personnal use.

Thanks

Definitely Impressed.

I was hoping to try that this weekend, but the female exemption has a Softball Tourney all day Saturday. They won both their games last night in the pool play. So they go in as the #1 seed for Group A.

I am thinking, I wanna go a little more extreme than what I mentioned last night. Fullwidth Chevy Axles.

Then I can keep the other one lightly modified for more street use.

Need to find a shop to use now.

Ummm... EZ, you need to check yer facts. There may have been a IH plant in Canada. BUT... Most Scouts were built in Ft.Wayne, Indiana. oh yeah. There was also an IH plant in Australia and Mexico.

(On. Nov. 30, 1960, the first International Scout SUV rolled off the assembly line at International Harvester Co.'s newly acquired assembly plant in Fort Wayne, IN )

Huh! Well I'll be.......I checked and it looks like you're right! I could have sworn that I remember Scouts being Canadian. Maybe I was thinking of something else.
