Seems to me like the ideal length of a shackle would be the difference in length between the arc length of the spring minus the chord length of the spring (eye to eye). It all depends then on what spring you are using.

You also have to take into account that with a shackle reversal, the longer the shackle, the more it will drop your front pinion, making a harsher angle for your drive shaft u-joints. From my experience, shakcle reversals are nice on the roads, but make your front end hop more when wheeling.

by doing the SOA your gaining about 4-5 inches and then your going to put 7 more inches of shackles on it... I'm thinking your about to exceed the bumper heigth of the rig... unless your just using this as a trailer queen....

on my cj-7 I have 3 in of lift from my shackles... and I hit them on everything out wheeling... almost broke my spring last year in Moab when I had to back down a shelf and the shackle caught on the rock and pushed the springs back up into the frame... I would suggest getting rearched springs instead of longer shackles...

it was more like trying to fit the biggest tires in the neighborhood and proving that i could. i have decided to go with 4' shackles and later if i decide to go higher i'll just go with lift springs. thanks for your input
