With our tax return, I am getting the Rubcon Express 4.5" lift for my wife's XJ. The kit doesn't come with shocks, so I'd like some advise on what to get.

I'm trying to decide between these:

Doestch Tech 3000 shocks
Skyjacker Hydro shocks
RE Monotube shocks
Rancho 5000s

I've run Ranchos before on other Jeeps, and I have liked them, but I don't know much about the others. Money is limited, so price is a consideration.

It's a 98 XJ that is a DD and very rarely goes off-road, We will be running some 31s. Remember, this is my WIFE'S vehicleand she wants a smooth ride.

I would go with the Doestch...I have not heard anything about the RE ones so they may be a consideration too...

I've run Rancho and Doestch Tech. I'd run the Doestch tech over the Rancho's anyday. I wouldn't mind trying the Bilsteins out, but for the $$$, Doestch is where it's at for me. I think I'm running the 8000 Doestch and have been quite happy with that (read, controlled ride. As smooth as my suspension configuration will let me--has decent damping and good control).

I run a 9112 equivilent on the front and I honestly don't know what I have on the back.

For what it's worth, I've ran Doestch Tech shocks on three of my vehicles one was a daily driver with 35 12.5 R15's. They have been great in every application. I recently changed to Pro Comp 3000 trying to get more travel with out killing the wallet, but I haven't tried them out yet. I don't know if Doestch Tech makes a 15" travel shock, if that's an issue.

I'm in the same situation. I'm at 6" and I have been running ES3000's and they are wore out. I've been looking for a while now, and most say to run Old Man Emu of Bilstein.
