Should the US toss the life preserver (to the tune of $700B)?

This bailout is not to bail out the fat cats on Wall Street. This money is to lending institutions to free up some credit. The public is so busy screaming they don't want to bail out Wall Street that they haven't taken the time see what the plan is even about.

Sadly, because the public is dumb and never bothers to do any research on subjects

Some of the things they added are really good. The AMT fix, and the increase in FDIC insurance are both really good. I think they both should have been done separately, but they will probably make the bill attractive enough to gain the extra 13 votes they need to get it past the house. Hopefully the Dow has a big increase tomorrow morning.

I'm still against it, but I don't see a better way of not messing up the economy even worse over the next ~5 years. Even though I know in ~6 years, the economy will fix itself. I'm just afraid of how bad things will get before they get better...And that's the only reason I'm for this bailout/help/what ever PC thing they are calling it...

Saw that earlier. Now to hope that it works and credit starts moving again!

It won't! Atleast not for awhile.

But this part is fun. :greg:

I am opposed to this in the current form it is in, they needed to remove ALL the earmarks and the worst thing McCain did was vote for it with all the stupid earmarks still on it, roght after he said he would not approve anything with earmarks.

IMO, He lost this election over this. All he had to do is what 90% of Americans wanted. The bill still would have passed, but he would have been on the right side.

Utahs very own Dem, Jim Matheson voted no.
I seldom (to never) agree with dems (pinko commi libs).
But this one was Sooooooooooooo easy.

We should have just ripped the bandaid off, and felt the sting now.

I think it will hurt alot worse two or five years from now.

You should watch a little more closely how he votes and what his policies are. Actually, he is more conservative than most republicans, especially on financial issues. I have lived in multiple states, and was a republican in all of them. When I moved back here, I changed my affiliation to Democrat after closely examining the republican party locally. I vote Independent, whoever I think will most closely support my views, despite party affiliation.

The polarization of the parties being Liberal, or Conservative, is a bunch of crap. I think we saw that on this board with a poll a month or two ago. Most people are within a few degrees of center, either right or left. But the parties breed candidates that need the support of the bases, which are some of the most closed minded, ignorant groups you can find, and then they are spurred on by the Hannity's and Air America's to keep the two parties divided. (Does Rush still use the phrase "You believe it because I say it.") We should do a poll as to where people preffer to get their news, and I gaurantee that it will have a direct connection to how people's oppinions are expressed here. The biggest issue that people showed up to vote for in the last Presidential election...the war?..no...the economy...no...healthcare...no. It was Gay marriage. (Thanks Carl Rove, utah native, because god forbid we should waste money on health benefits to same sex couples, it could cripple our ability to spend a trillion dollars in Iraq.)

It is digusting that the earmarks were added to this bill. I was hoping that a few more days would give some time for a better bill to be passed. My expectations were obviously naive, and overly optimistic.

Thanks Washington.

But a manufacturer of childrens toy wooden arrows is very happy right now, Oh and a Rum producer in another country. Don't forget a bunch of ceo's who will now get their 90 million dollar pensions. This was the wrong move I hope in the end I am way off on this.

Stock prices collapsed around the world on Monday amid growing fears that the credit crisis would trigger a global recession.

The wave of selling swept through markets despite a scramble by governments to tackle the crisis, leading to rampant speculation that co-ordinated emergency rate cuts by the Federal Reserve and other central banks might be in the offing.

Bingo! Now we know why they were in financial troubles to begin with. No value of the dollar. As long as there are checks, they aren't broke kind of mentality. They will be right back in debt after the bailout is gone... you watch. It will be swept under the rug that the American people lost their money in this.

This stuff is crazy.

Giving all this money to these guys is like giving a crack head more crack when his stash runs out. Where is the lesson learned? Where is the natural consequence for the behavoir? Where is the pain?

These guys have gambled away all thier money, and are now truly playing with house money...hell its going to be worse. Un****ing believable!!!
