i've got one that i've used for a couple of years. its a little slow but it keeps on working. i don't think you can beat it for the 50 or so bucks they cost.

I bought one at Costco and have used it a bunch with no issues. Its the same one a lot of other companies put there label on and it has worked great. The only bad thing is it hooks straight to the battery instead of the cigarette lighter. I would buy it again.

On Saturday I was in my wifes Expedition and when we came out of the restaurant, found a flat tire. It was after 5 and so I was out of luck with a tire store. The lug wrench wouldn't fit because of the aftermarket wheels so I went into Target and got the Slime/compressor combo. It literally took 15 minutes for that little compressor to fill the tire (305x55x22) with enough pressure to drive it to a gas station so I could fill it up enough to drive home. The compressor you are looking at it a lot bigger than the one I used.

You can get the extended warranty on the HF unit for like $6.00, free replacement.

The Costco air compressor is my favorite for the $$.

I posted this thread while standing at Autozone looking at the compressor.. Looks like there is a $20 rebate off of the $59 pricetag.. Thought i'd see what the group thinks.

The costco one is great, which is the same one I got free from 4wheel parts when I bought some tires a few years back. I have used the sh*t out of mine and it still keeps going. It got so hot once it melted the hose off but didn't hurt it. My MIL wanted oen since i was using it to fill up her tires all the time and I think Costco no longer carries it. I eneded up getting her the HF one.

I'll give another shout for the Costco or MV-50 if you pick it up at Pep Boys. I got two years out of the first one and the 2nd is about a year old. If I hadn't dropped my Costco Membership, I could have returned for a new one. Costco doubles the Manfctr warranty(2 yrs).

Your best bet is to look at the cfm it moves, that's the volume of air. Compare to the Costco and the Harbor Freight. If its the same or higher, it should be good. My buddy used the HF for 3 years. Its a little slower. It also overheated faster, but would reset in about 3 minutes. When the Costco overheats, its close to 10 to reset.

The MV-50 is rated at 2.54 CFM.

Also, noticed from some reviews that the Slime one needs 15 amps and your cigarette lighter may not be rated that high. The Costco is 30 A, hence the direct battery connection.

If you want a compressor to not fail you when you are by yourself in the wilderness don't count on these cheap compressors. I got the costco one because everyone raved about them, and yes they are great for the money and they are fast and do a good job. Perfect for a crawler or truck you'll have when other people are around. Even if it does break, you can take it back to costco. But they are low quality and do fail. I've seen several fail, mine included. I'm glad I wasn't depending on it. (Oh and I didn't buy mine at costo, and after writing the company that makes them (Q-Max or something) about the warrantee, the would not reply or answer the phone).

I ended up getting a very expensive, well made compressor instead of another cheap one. I do too much stuff by myself.

I run an off brand compressor I got off ebay for $20. It specs out similar to the vair compressors. I love the thing. I run it with a 2.5 gallon tank equipped with a regulator and blow off valve. The tank makes the difference in my opinion. I fill the tank, then shut the compressor off to cool. Works great, had it for 3 years now. Only complaint is it gets hot enough to burn your hand if you are not careful. Common sense would dictate that you should shut the compressor off prior to it getting that hot. Oh yeah, it is loud and sucks a lot of juice from your battery. It takes about 15 minutes to air up 35" tires from 7 psi to around 20 psi.
