What brand of spring was that?

Hmmm. Seems to me that AAA was ludicrously expensive, back when only Skyjacker made lift springs for FSJ's. Like $700 a spring or something.

This thread certainly hasn't impressed ME. Love to support locals, but Alcan's not that far away.

PS. Chrysler. AMC was done by '83, in any real sense.

They were quite reasonable, but took a while to get my junk back to me. I'll take them back there and see what they want to do. It did break in a different spot than I was getting fatigue from stock XJ takeoffs. I've never even stressed a spring that fast as far as I know. I think I was just lucky, but am totally weighing my suspension options at the moment.

Basicly the whole point of the rig was to be 'low buck' and capable. If I can keep springs under it, I'll be pretty happy with it. Links are being seriously considered, but for the immediate future (budget) I'll be putting some form of XJ spring back on there.

That is wild, I am trying to figure out how it broke.

You don't really hear about to many broken rear springs...

The only time I have broke a spring was when I was rallying it a little bit in 2wd, and the driver's tire drooped in a hole that I thought I had a smooth exit. So at all but full droop and too much speed, I hit a rather non smooth exit. Needless to say it sounded like a 12 gauge going off, my tire stuffed in the fender and without Dtoy there to bail me out I would probably still be there. :D

i broke a rear leaf on my xj. it snapped so hard that it killed my fuel pump. and we where stuck in the middle of the trail with no power and a 35" mtr stuffed into the wheelwell. oh did i mention the 20 rigs behind me that couldnt get past.

Do you have any kind of anti-wrap back there? I can't remember. That's something I'm looking at seriously, because I've got some 63's in the garage and they are a LOT softer than stock Blazer springs. With bigger tires, lower gearing, and more torque (454, Doubler), I'm not keen on survival chances for those poor springs. :D

Anyway, something almost identical to this will probably go on mine, to avoid springs like yours:

You can see my teeny little traction bar just behind the winch cable.

Here's a better pic.

If that detail helps and there's something wrong with how the bar is built, I'd like to know.

Those traction bars on the ORD truck will stress springs more than a ladder bar like Marc has will. Different directions and stuff, but essentially those don't work that well and a ladder bar does.

That's what I was thinking too... Those bars will try to push/pull the axle forward/back through the suspension cycle. So either the travel sucks, or the springs are turning into S bends.

If I remember right, because I did ask when I was at ORD w/the 715 :D, they added a shackle to the frame end for awhile and it worked better?

I'm gonna need something fairly low-profile. What say ye?

Adding a shackle would make those 100% useless, unless they also added another tube up higher to make them ladder bars. Two ladder bars will restrict articulation, so if they did that I'd hope they just did one of 'em.

It probably did work better with the shackle, but they could have gotten the same result by simply removing them. ;)

You don't have to make a ladder bar hang down a bunch for it to be effective.
