~ Bush Eater's Offroad ~
- Location
- Salt Lake Utah
I didn't get a lot of pics, but the details were as follows....
I arrived at the parking lot about quarter past 10 in the AM to run with a few buddies (5 or 6 total). Mostly a group called Bush Eaters and other buddies that have wheeled together before, but have not had the time to link back up and wheel again together do to many different things goning on in our lives. Ok, so I immediately when I pulled in noticed there were I think 3 different small groups of enthusiests camping out there Saturday night... very cool to see people taking the innitiave to get the camping gear out this close to home. Then TO MY SURPISE, there were approxamently 30-40 rigs that eventually pulled in within the next 35-45min. Everyone looked super stoked chatting in groups and eyeing the rigs. Although alot folks were here to just enjoy the warm weather early on this wheeling season, this was an oppertunity for a few of us to thrash on our rigs a bit in order to do a Pre-EJS shakedown. Come to find out alot of the wheelers were from Dirtheadz of American Fork, super cool to wheel with ya guys... & hope to do it again!! Just goes to show ya being a part of 4-Wheel Drive Club sure gives a an opertunity to have fun in bigger groups like this because I know most of us sure like to see other people wheel the same obsticals too. In addiition on runs as big as this where you have diligent wheelers getting together, trail clean up's sweep the area quick.
It looked as if the first group to go was about 10 or 12 mostly XJ's, Yotas and a mix of wranglers CJ/TJ/TY/JK's. As I warmed up the motor I also did a quick jaunt and noticed I had shifter fork problems (right from the get go I was wrenching on stuff). With help of my fellow wheelers eger to chip in we had it corrected and back to gether. That allowed another decent group of 15 to take off (I did notice quite a few standard/stockish SUV and Jeeps out on Sunday... if ya got one and wanna go this trail proves to be fun for all). Ok, then the Bush Eaters followed up the tail with another group of 10 or so.
We past the first little camping area with trees, then past the "snakes" sign and quickly got into a traffic jam before the first rock garden, but it was cool... everyone got out to do some chit chatting, removed the soft tops, and picked up some trash while we were waiting. It was nice seeing everyone wait for each other and spot their buddies as well. This trail is pretty short so ya gotta make the most of it at every boulder within the wash. Helping your buddies like that def allows people to tackle harder/optional obsticles when they know their not rushed and subsequently don't put there rigs capabilities into danger. I also started noticing that this was a pretty cool/family oriented group... alot of couples and also families with kids seemed to be out enjoying our sport. I thought overall we had a super good group of people out there mingling.
Skipping ahead to the obsticles, the 1st boulder garden was super dry and fun, I didn't take the far passenger HI side but will attempt it soon. A little further up was the Big Boulder on the left - it was super dry and I made the double stair step look pretty easty with super hi belly height and 42's , Then was the hi ledges on the left - they were also super dry and I saw a couple people take the super big ledge at the top with ease, we stopped for an awesome view at the top of both tailings piles and then noticed that the congragation point was once again at Waynes World for all the excitement that the dry conditions permitted... Everyone and I mean everyone was trying it that day. My group obviously came up late tail gunning the pack, but there were still a ton of people parked and sitting there cheering us on. I know I tacked the obsticle twice taking it at different angles each time. I also saw my buddies wife jump in his CJ and make a run of it with a Jeep full of girls!!! WooHoo, now thats some excitement in my mind...lol Lunch's were had, photos and video were taken gallore, I had some tunes a-playin, saw a few cute dogs cruzing around saying "hi", all that was missing was a vedors selling hot dogs, PBJ's and some chilli.
There was a pretty decent group that went all the way up constrictor, the trail was super dry. No problem on the off camber ledge (love that obstical), Radiator rapids was dry no issues there either. As I approached eagles nest I saw there was still some mud at the base, but also a lot of big rocks that were piled up. I gave it a few goes and dummy me forgot the radiator fan and overheated in about 5 min of playing. It was my first time with this buggy and it felt good, but I really just wanted to keep the rig togehter for Moab! Two others tooka whirl, Eddie gave-er-hell a few times & then tried the Left side of the tree. He got up there and eventually went behond the limits of gravity and went over backwards onto the lid. All it good fun, they and their rig were OK. Last up was Sean, (this was his 2nd time to the obsticle and 1st time trying it) he made it the farthest. His buggy romped up about 2.5 feet, but was a far cry from the full pull required that day. He ended up with a flat rear tire so we got him off the obsticle, filled it with air and back down the trail our group went all with our biggest wheeling grins on our face! :greg:
