..Perhaps we ought to get with the BLM and see if they have any ideas for improving the area.

We should. Although out long time BLM hook-up is no longer out of the Salt Lake office, we are forming a great relationship with her replacement. They are very conscious about the RS/Con area we would need them involved on any major changes we think necessary... With their help we could even get some Federal grant money or state rec trail money to fund some of the projects.

Clean up any trash out on the trails.

Lets do another RME cleanup out there... Last time turned out great, we wheeled all day and took out a pickup bed (well a Tacoma bed ;)) full of trash, all off or RS & Con.

Create a dedicated staging/parking area. (Mabey outline the area with RR ties or something?)

That may take a little more work with the BLM. They actually have federal regulations on what their signs & kiosks can contain. Johnny Lange and I spent the day painting & labeling all the kiosks a year ago (NPLD 2004), they gave us a sheet that detailed every location for signs... I am sure we could get something figured out though..

..Have trash containers at the staging area.

This is a difficult one. The problem becomes who's responsibility they become, on top of the fact that they seem to promote vandalism for some :mad2: The BLM is supposed to add restrooms, picnic tables, garbage facilities, etc to the actual 5MP recreation area just around the corner, however it is caught up in paperwork for the funding??

..Have a sign, info & possible maps of the trails, in the staging area.

I am sure we could get a sign on the kiosk. Something similar to Steve Jacksons Trail Card from last months U4 Compass. Do it on a 11x17, laminated and posted on the kiosk (assuming they let us). We could possible have a pile of the maps there available too, but who's going to pay for them, ad how long with they last with the track record out there?

..Close off any bypasses..

Thats a must do... the only one that should be on RS is the one at the waterfall that has predated most of the 4x4 use, all others are most likely new. Constrictor is a different story, those that were there in the beginning know what it is supposed to be like... we could do some restoration work.

Greg said:
..Add a winch anchor above the waterfall on Constrictor.

Needs to be done... too many trees have been taken out by CARELESS wheelers without tree straps and common sense.

..I'd say since winter is here, we should take the time planning it and get this done around spring, when it warms up.

Lets start a planning thread, transfer these posts over and get the ball rolling...

lets do it, im in. last weekend when me and a few buddies were out there, three buggies rolled up behind us. I have know idea who they were and i doubt they were anyone from this board, but i have never seen anyone so careless to a trail. they decided that they were going to just drive all over town. for example, they took a hard left at the waterfall on RS and just flew up the hill, another was after they went up WW they just went left and booked it through the trees. lets do this thing.

sorry for the highjack again.
and yes i did mention to them about it and they didint seem to care.

You thinking new signs, or just remodeling the old ones?
I'm open to suggestions- I'd be glad to cut some new ones, but they need to be a little bit bigger to fit everything, or be re-written. However it turns out I think that they have held up better than I thought...No bullet holes in these babies!

Damn where did Dusty blow up that 231 at??

Nowhere hard, he just took the hard line and didn't listen when his spotter said stop.... A limiting strap on the front would have saved the day. :)

They have held up great... I think a bit of touch-up paint would make em' last for a couple more seasons... its been awhile since we sank those in :D

They have been there for over two years now

Yep, first thing my wife said when we got there was "we forgot the paint!".

Sounds like a good excuse to go back out. Darn it. :greg:
