YES!! I played hell trying to get my 85 to run right. Again, another dragger deal.. After my 83 was toasted, I picked up a rust bucket 69 for the track. I started growing up, and picked up the 85 for next to nothing because of a blown motor (salvaged deal because of it). So I took my 302HO motor out of the 69 and put it in the 85. It would idle fine for a short time, but then it would really start to load up and start puffing black smoke. Would not pass CA emissions because of it, so it was registered in UT. I was soooo glad to be rid of that car after a few years of it...

I think MAF came out in 86 or 87, late 80's anyway.

my ex wife had an 87 in high school that her dad helped her rebuild the engine and put a bigger cam in it. she spent a lot of money on trying to get it to idle right, the pros at the dealer nor tunex couldn't figure it out. I ended up reading about it in 5.0 mustang magazine right after she sold it, although you can buy a MAF conversion kit for the ones that did not have it.

Yeah, me too :D My HO motor had a SVO cam in it with next to no vacuum at idle. No vacuum made the computer think I had my foot in it and caused it to flood out. Ran great down the road, though.

I ended up trading it at a car lot for a Mitsubishi Eclipse, being told it would be stripped and scrapped. Then a few years ago I get this nasty letter from a collection agency threatening to sue me over some fairly recent tow bill because the car was impounded from excess expired reg tickets. Apparently the car 1) wasn't stripped 2) wasn't taken out of my name etc.

A 5.0 Ford Mustang....
Any 5.0 Mustang guys on here? Marcus.... :D
'

sounds like a good idea. what would you like to know;)

Late 90's are all 4.6 cammers. The 5.0 ended in 95 and is a pretty cool car. Go for a pre-95 fox body car or a cobra if you can find it.
93 cobra would be my choice if I bought another mustang.

the 96-98 4v will do 425-450 RWHP all day long with a blower and are somewhat reliable if you keep the boost to 8lbs or so. The 03-04 cobra is the way to go if you have the coin as it has great longblock with a ton of potential.

The 93' cobras were always a favorite of mine. had four of them at one point or another.

Wonder how hard it would be to fab up a low-buck, remote-mount turbo, like the STS products?

you said low-buck and turbo in the same sentence.

Good luck keeping it cheap and simple;).

.

correct. IMHO, if you can stay away from forced induction on a 5.0 you'll be much happier.

I'm also a fan or the GMC Syclone and Typhoon with Awd and the TPI turbo 4.3 V6 :chris:

My friend and his dad both have 89 Saleen's. 5 lug conversion, 5 speeds and racecraft suspension powered by the Vortech Supercharged 5.0. I have ridden in many 5.0's and few have ever came close to the Saleen's in handling and ride they are far from overrated. If you aren't familiar with them search around for fox body Saleen and the ASC Mclaren they are pretty cool.

A buddy back home used to race typhoons and cyclones and they were good for mid 12s. He had a brand new white typhoon that he painted some funky peach color and we gave him so much sh*t about it. He would come out street racing and would kill us off the line.

We recently auctioned off two fairly low mileage 5.0s. Red 95' cobra and a black 88GT. We also had two 05 saleens both silver, supercharged and a little haggard.

My choice if i fell back down that path, would be an hardtop 03 anniversary cobra or an 2011 GT. Damn the 2010-2011s look great and haul *ss! Muscle mustangs magazine recently got a bone stock 2011 GT to run 12:30s on sticky tires:eek:

I found an old pic of my 96' saleen at HRP. It was the second SOHC in the 11s and the first in the 10s *sigh*

Well, that was quick and much too easy. :( Now we just need him to post pics! That shouldn't take more than a couple weeks.

In the meantime, just so Goat can get his list of mods ready for Bryson to use:

It's a 1988, but it has a mass air sensor. Rebuilt motor about 5K ago, has headers, dual Flowmasters, and a K&N type intake. And it's a convertible, just for summer sexyness. :greg:

This was a dead give-away for me:

So, guess who just bought a Mustang? Vehicular ADD for the win! (not me...)

Besides, doesn't it just make sense that the asian man would want to go too fast and too furious? Granted, it's american HP, but that's just because of his denial. ;) You know he really wants to 'souped' up Civic..

Its a good thing the 5.0 crowd is so large, there are plenty of performance parts for a good price. I built an EFI'd 350hp 351w for my EB and did it for relatively cheap using Ebay and Mustang forums
