sold a car--now he wants me to cover airbag costs

Yeah, in Utah, the law protects the seller in cases like this. The car was sold "as is" unless specifically noted otherwise. There's not a thing he can do about it. If he does call, tell him you will no longer have phone conversations and everything has to be done in writing via certified snail mail. If he steps foot on your property, tell him he is trespassing and call the cops.

I am not a lawyer but my best legal advice for you would be to STOP talking to him ASAP!!! You never know with some of these people, they might be recording your every word and you might inadvertantly incriminate yourself. Stop talking to him, avoid his phone calls and send him on his merry way if he comes to your house.

1)I know you might think you are trying to be a nice guy but it aint your car, it aint your problem.

2)You didn't do the misdeed of disconnecting the airbag light and removing the airbags so you have nothing to worry about, stop talking to him.

3)Stop talking to him!! STOP STOP STOP, do not call him back!!

After reading everything here, I think this is the best advice given and if he calls again, tell him to have your attny contact you. Then if he keeps calling/coming by the house, you can have him arrested for harrassment!

In Utah, a private party transaction is assumed "as is" unless otherwise noted on a bill of sale, similar to buying a home in which you would note any discrepencies that need to be taken care of in the contract.
Just like everyone has said, it's not your problem anymore. You have as good a chance of proving he took out the airbag as he does of you removing it.

called him this morning and left a message indicating that I wasnt going to give him any money to replace it. He hasnt called back.
