Solutions to the Soft Top Dilemma

Well it finally happened. Some wonderful human being has decided to take some of my possessions left in my jeep as his own. I've never had this problem before but now I guess I live in a crappier area. I don't know who it is nor how to stop it besides locking all my things away. Problem is, I have a soft top, with full soft doors without functioning locks. After the first incident (In which only minor things that I don't care about were stolen) I got better and more consistent at locking my center console and dash storage. But now this pleasant human being has stolen my GPS ( Without the power cable Ironically). So now I'm annoyed and don't know what to do about it. I have to keep some kind of GPS in the vehicle to track my speed because my speedometer is off by forever, but I hate having to constantly unlock, shuffle through, then re-lock the console or dash where I'd have to store it.
Is there some app on my phone I can use that can track my speed reliably?

Suggestions, words of encouragement, support, fellow rants about stupid thieves are all welcome.

Gaia GPS is on my phone. It has a speed readout.

Sorry about the soft top but douchbags will always grab things from other folks. It's not an 'if' it's a when on a Jeep softtop (or any other vehicle for that matter).

No suggestion on the app, but "back in the day" I used to make sure anything important was in the tuffy box and everything else pretty open/unlocked. I didn't want some idiot shredding a $500 soft top to get $3.49 in spare change...

I'm afraid humanity will disappoint us on a daily basis. You just flat out can't leave anything in your car. Soft top, no top or normal top. If they want it, they will break your window to get it. Just don't leave anything of value in your cars. Sorry to hear about it. I am not a hater of color, I am a hater of trash and trash comes in all shapes, sizes and colors. Unfortunately, there are some people really struggling with addiction and they just don't think right and they actually rely on people leaving their valuables in their cars so they can take it. Sad deal.

For general advice, I always did the same thing as Jinx, kept most things out of my jeeps, the few things I kept in there I kept in the tuffy, and then I was sure to never lock my jeep. I did have it broken in to several times but never lost a top :p . I lost a pair of oakleys (being a poor newlywed, losing the oakleys hurt) and several stereo decks, that was it.

For the GPS, I'd suggest just fixing the speedo, that will likely be the least expensive option considering your jeep will get broken in to again.

Sad reality is what the thief wants the thief get, hard or soft top, locked or not.

Few years ago had our employee parking lot hit- we all lost our stereos, CDs (yes, I said it was a few years ago), a couple lost their bags.

But since I happened to forget to lock my door that day, I was the only one without a broken window.

This is why people drive me nuts when they say drug addicts only hurt themselves. Desperate people do some pretty shitty things.
