Someone painted my tires...

So the city isn't stoked that I park my Cruiser on the street apparently. I drive it on the weekends, and park in in the same spot on the street. I could see how it might seem as though it hasn't moved in a month or more.

Anyways, they marked my tires in relation to the spot it was sitting in, and left a warning of some sort. It said I was in violation of city code because I was storing a vehicle on the street, and that it would be impounded tomorrow (I assume if it was found in the same spot)..:rolleyes:

So, as long as I move the truck, I should be ok right?

I think you should copy that mark with the same color paint in multiple locations on the tires they marked and see what they do then. :greg:

I've had problems with this same issue. I just moved the truck back and forth a foot every night. Supposedly any vehicle left on the street for more than 24 hrs, is "in storage" on the street, and is illegal. But if it moves, then its just parked. blah blah blah,

I think you should mark the street every foot. don't want to make your tire look funny.

Are you in the city of Salt Lake City? If so here is their law, as far as I can sort out all of their parking laws.

http://www.sterlingcodifiers.com/codebook/getBookData.php?id=&section_id=446884&keywords=

12.56.300: RESIDENTIAL PARKING LOTS OWNED BY THE CITY:

A. No person, on the premises of any residential parking lot owned by the city where a sign or signs are posted designating such residential parking lot as a parking lot of Salt Lake City Corporation, shall:

1. Park any vehicle continuously in excess of seventy two (72) hours;

2. Park any boat, trailer or motor home;

3. Park any vehicle over eighteen feet (18') in length or eight feet (8') wide;

4. Abandon any vehicle;

5. Make repairs on any vehicle; or

6. Park any vehicle thereon which does not bear a valid license plate and current Utah inspection sticker.

B. For the purpose of this section, the term "residential parking lot owned by the city" means any area where vehicles may be left unattended upon any property the city may have an ownership interest in, and which has a sign or signs thereon stating that such area is a "residential parking lot of Salt Lake City Corporation".

C. Any vehicle found in violation of any of the foregoing prohibitions upon any residential parking lots owned by the city is hereby declared to be a nuisance, and may be summarily abated by removing any such vehicle by, or under the directions of, or at the request of a police officer or other officer charged with enforcing the parking laws of the city to a place of storage within the city by means of towing or otherwise, as provided in chapter 12.96 of this title, and the provisions of said chapter 12.96 of this title shall govern the disposition of any vehicle so impounded. (Ord. 56-86 § 1, 1986: Ord. 48-86 § 1, 1986: prior code § 28-3-170)

Rotate the marked tires to the other side. Or flip it around and park it facing the other way of the street

Parking enforcement would probably ticket him for parking in the wrong direction.
Jason did they paint the tires? or just where the tires were?

Just bump the starter every couple days. I would call and talk to them so they know it is moving.

I say call them and inform them that the vehicle does move and then demand that they come and take the paint off the tires. If they don't comply, send them a receipt for the cost of getting the paint removed. Follow up every week on the receipt and inform them that it will be sent to collections after a month of failing to pay. :)

Salt Lake gets a major portion of it's budget from parking fines:mad:
They give out tickets as fast and often as they can.
You can also be ticketed for parking on your lawn in Salt Lake.

.

Indeed they do. I once got a fine for parking in my own driveway. The rear bumper was overhanging the sidewalk:rolleyes:

I took pictures of it and blew them up. Went down to enforcement and got the ticket dismissed.
