everywhere i go to pick up an output seal for the tranny in my '85 4runner, they give me the same wrong seal. i'm 99% positive i've got the w56, and all i need to get going again is that output seal for the tranny...

anyone know who'd have one for sure? i've been to VatoZone, and Larry H Miller, and called Napa and Checker... I'm thinking i need to take the seal in and physically match it up to get the right one... why would everyone's computers pull up the same wrong seal?-_-

If everyone's pulling the wrong seal, maybe it's a different part or different trans? Definitely take the old seal in to match it up to the new. Good luck dude. I feel the pain.

there's your answer

yeah.. shoulda done that in the first place.. guess i put too much trust in Larry... it's just wierd to me that i get the wrong part every time. guy i bought it from says it's the stock tranny as far as he knows..

thing that sucks most is it's my only mode of transportation... meaning everything suffers when the 4runner's down... work, work... and, work..:( we're on numerous days now....

the seal i removed says, MHSA 32 52 8-1 16 KOYO - CR

the one from the dealership says, NOK AH224OH 36

the one from AutoZone that's the same as the dealer one is part # 710319

see told you my old school book says the w56 trans is pn-223840. Which is the one you don't have. Now go buy it and give me all the credit I deserve:greg:

Toyota (and Koyo) are very smart... ;)

32 52 8-1 Most likely means 32mm ID, 52mm OD 8mm thick with mabey a 1mm flange?

The 36 on the other one might be the ID?? Get a tape measure out...

You can trust a "Stealership" to rustle up the wrong part. No offense to any of you who work in the industry. I'm sure any of you are better than the ones I choose not to use any more.

My favorite place for those hard to find parts is Parts Plus on 7th E. and about 10000 S. I always try to take the original in with me though.

i just took that seal in and had them match it up... he never did tell me what it was off of... everything is up and going... except.. the new brake booster i put in rubs just enough on the steering linkage that it's not going anywhere tonight... now i've gotta research whether or not i can 'clearance' the steering linkage by putting a dent in the booster...

Something I learned from working the parts counter for 5yrs is that (at least it seemed to me) every automobile manufacturer would blend in parts for different model years. If you have an '85 and have a hard time getting the right parts, look at the same vehicle from '84 and '86 ect. You know at the factory they can't use some of the "new" parts until all of the "old" parts are gone, and if they run out too early they can only buy the new parts for next years model.
It seamed to me that everyone did this, including Dodge, Ford, GM, Toyota, Ect.
