Stephen, I am looking into going, but I have the gutter people and garage door guy coming first part of the week and will see what funds are like afterward. Do you have room for everything in the Nissan? I may take the trailer to see how it works out if I do go and would have a ton of room for stuff.

The Pathfinder will hold everything I need. Feel free to bring your trailer, but I will warn you that the switchbacks on Elephant Hill are pretty tight, so getting your trailer up would take a bit if skill.

The story of my life...

Ditto to what Stephen said on the trailer...I know people have pulled them through there unscathed, but it probably isn't the place to test out your skills if you aren't familiar with your setup (in my not-so-valuable friendly 7th grade teacher voice). Plus, leaving all the extra crap behind will give you a better experience.

Beef Basin is the $hizzo. I may go balls out and drive out there Saturday afternoon....we will see.

I'm only sure that I've put a pin in it for now. If I do go I have to decide what to take. The KJ is more of a winter-wheeling vehicle due to the fact you have to run the heat to keep it from over-heating. The Runner performed flawlessly last week (thanks in part to my mad skillz) but it's on the bleeding edge of needing a new timing belt and is still rollin street tires. The KJ has superior tires and a boss ARB awning but it's also past due for an oil change.... and the oil is 'spensive.

Why is it overheating? And why do you say your oil is "spensive"? You can do your timing belt in an afternoon.

I am pretty serious...unless Hilary has something planned for me I don't know about. Do you have an idea where you will be camping Saturday night?

I do. When I get home and am in front of a real computer I'll post up a map for you.

Bleeding edge as in you know it's going to go, or that it's at the service interval? You should be OK on all seasons for this trail. Nothing worse than what you saw on the Pastafari.

Timing belt is more 'spensive than erl (associated parts cost $250) and the KJ takes a lot of 0W40 sythetic diesel erl.... about $80 worth plus filter and I don't know if hanging out with Stephen is worth the expense.

No one knows why it runs so hot.... my guess is it's all teh sexay.

It's two years past the timing interval and within 2K of the mileage interval if the sticker on the motor is to believed.

The stereo and CB is better in the KJ too.

You know it's worth it! And besides, if you're not there, who else will bring teh sexy?

If you need a hand with the timing belt, let me know.

Here is the area where I hope we'll be camping the second night. Its on the Ruin Park road a bit before you get to the Tower Ruin. There are a number of little spurs off the main road to the north and east that head to some nice overlooks of Needles. The approximate GPS coordinates are: 38°00'23.05" N 109°52'02.42" W
