putting some cash together for my high pinion 3rd right now (build w/ARB and 5.29's), but i still have a lot of armor to buy for the axle housing. bank lenders are keeping me down so its going to be a slow going project.

u getting close on yours? if you need any parts let me know, i'm selling off a lot of the stock parts from my front axle.

I have an axle lined up and I'm just going to buy the trail gear ifs eliminator kit. But, that might be a while. A roll cage is first in line. Bought the tube and getting ready to start building a cage.

i know these dont seem super popular, but i'm getting a killer deal through my work on some G2 axles for my 85 front end. they offer a 4340 chromoly 30 spline i'm going to try out.

anyone tried these? if so, how they holding up?

i went to put my high pinion in and realized i didnt quite have the clearance i needed to get her to fit.
had to do a little grinding to get it to drop in.

thanks brotha

so i've been waiting to get some lift time in the shop but it's been crazy busy so i decided to snag a welder and do this at home.

i ended up with a Miller 135 (110v). depending on how well it welds on the frame, i may just tack it all together then bring it to work to burn em in with the 220v.

That should do it. I'm obviously no expert, but unless you are welding 1/4" stuff a 110v should work fine....it may take a few passes and high amperage, but it will get the job done.

Got the axle mocked up. I think this will be a good starting shackle angle, but am open to suggestions.

All pro 3" springs and 5" shackles, ended up with a slightly forward angle.. I think after they settle it will be closer to 90* (@ full droop).

I'll set the weight of the truck on it and get another pic of the angles. Hoping it will be a few degrees back.

First time on the ground, not to bad.

Plan to swap out the rear shackles for some boomerangs to clear my bumper, then push the rear spring hanger back a little. Also have some shorter boomerangs for the front springs, to hopefully lower it some and avoid trimming that body mount.

I like the height of the rear so I'm going to attempt to lower the front to match. I think with some shorter shackles and removing the 2 lower leafs it should be pretty close after those front springs settle.

Anyway, onto the pics..

The original plan:
leaf configuration.jpg

First mock up, I think this would work great at full stuff but looks slightly forward at ride height, so I'll push that hanger back about an inch.
rear mock up.jpg

First attempt, how she sits at the moment.

Looks good. What size tires are those again? Where does it sit to frame?

35/12.50's. frame height, really depends on where you measure, but around 26" at the moment.

I dropped my Chevy springs at AAA Spring today, got em shortening an add-a-leaf for it, and throwing some better shackle/leaf clamps on.

Decided to run the extra leaf with some shorter boomerang shackles to hopefully keep the height about the same. Running a 6" bent shackle seems a bit excessive IMO, gonna try a different set i've got here (4-3/4").

back on the ground, front end came down quite a bit. she's right where i wanted her and sits nice and level now.
rear wheel is nice and centered again as well. :D also, frame height came down to 25".

20170420_215532.jpg

front shackle angle, i think i'll push that front hanger back about 1/2" to add a little more angle here.. aiming for a droop-style setup.
20170420_215859.jpg

pretty happy with the rear shackle angle. looks to have just enough clearance to wrap around my bumper.
20170420_220318.jpg

tonights plans, move my front hanger back and stuff the tires to double check my clearances. SO CLOSE!!

I bought this V6 axle awhile back, with the intention of just rolling it under the truck and running it..

I was told it was freshly rebuilt but decided to check anyway. The lockright looks good but obviously had a pinion walk into it at some point (had a chunk taken out of the case).. and the current setup, the pinion was WAY to tight. I'm not a fan of lockright anyway and felt the pinion bearings have been compromised, so it got a full rebuild with a spool.

All setup thanks to some help from my boss.

Painted and stabbed back into the housing.

finally have some more updates on this.

pulled the old trans, this one has had problems slipping out of 1st and 3rd gear since the day i bought the truck.
i'v got a freshly rebuilt top shift for dirt cheap to replace it.

new top shift trans
20170514_193255.jpg

forgot to take a picture of the new/old gears but here is one half way through the new install.
20170601_174746.jpg

fully built, just need to install the driveline flanges.. probably going to order up some new triple drilled ones to match the axles
this was a top shift conversion by trail-gear, opted to try their twin stick setup and decided since i have to rip into it i'd try their 4.7 gear set as well.

20170601_200915.jpg

and a little side project i've been working on while waiting for parts. swapped the battery and intake.
