Spare tire carrier

I am not real excited about carring my spare on the roof rack and have too much underfloor storage to carry it in side.

Anyone know of a source for having a swing-away carrier made and mounted?

Just a thought... could you build (or have built) one that slides into your receiver hitch, then swings downward, out of the way. That would be a strong, simple & easily removable idea. Built it with a latch or hitch pin to keep it upright, then pull the pin when you need to access the interior from the back. You could probably get all fancy & add some hydraulic struts to slow the drop so it's not so cumbersome.

I've been thinking about something like that for the FJ80.

If you want something like greg is suggesting I have been wanting to build something like that anyway (no real reason to want to but I have wanted to as I don't need it). but if you don't have the skills and want to come over some afternoon with some steel, a 14 inch cuttoff wheel and a couple bucks to cover the cost of welding wire we can throw one together :)

4x4 Labs makes really really nice swingouts with super beefy spindles. They have accessories that bolt onto the arms like tirecarriers, jerry can holders, ladders, bike racks... They can weld everything together so all you have to do is get the spindles welded on. Or they can send you all the parts and you can weld it together for cheaper.
I'm getting some of their stuff for my LX450 and maybe the Pig.

I have seen ones like that, sounds cool. Would need to have a reciever as well so I could still tow with it.

But the biggest concern I would have is that it would further complicate departure angle. Reciever drags sometimes as it is.

Will most certainly keep the offer in mind. Thanks.

I just realized you don't use a jeep, Im sorry, Im pretty sure you would have to just build one :( or have it built I can't find anywhere that sells them for your (03 Mitsubishi Montero Sport)

The link and suggestion is appreciated.

Not much of anything can be bought for the Montero Sports, so ideas of what can be built is good.

Thanks again!
