The time spent on this thread was enough time to build a traction bar. Get to it. Root problem, shmoot problem, build yourself a traction bar.

They typically don't provide as much operating angle as a standard ujoint.

It gives you more standard operating angle, just not quite as much angle as a standard joint. Put the add-aleaf back in it should help alot, and the traction bar is a must.

ok.....lets recap as most people have a hard time reading the first post...

I did a spring over with every intention of doing a traction bar.....

In the interim between doing the traction bar I have found the axle wrap to be too much for my liking...the moral of this story is to reduce the time between the spring over and the installation of the traction bar.

I was never debating adding a traction bar...my initial post is clear about that...I was just stating that the springs are soft not that it is a bad thing...soft riding springs is what I was after. Pre spring over I was on crappy lift springs that rode rough and had more axle wrap than I was interested in with a sprung under application hence the spring over with a traction bar...better ride, better axle control.

The add a leaf is not an option as it gives me another 3 inches of lift and I look like a mexican in a monte carlo with 3 foot long shackles..... I might add a couple smaller leafs but it is already at 5 leaves and that is substantial. Any more and I am into new U-bolt land and more lift that I really need.

If you already know the answer to your problem then why bother asking for more information on this thread? 'Monkey is right. Add a traction bar and then let us know if it worked.

And 5 leaves isn't too much, either. You're just getting started.

Wait, I'm confused...
I read this post and it sounds just like the first one. If you know you need a traction bar and you had or have every intention on making one and installing it, why is this thread here? Above you stated that you aren't debating that you need a traction bar (thank God), but while driving the Jeep between the spring over and the traction bar you become dissatisfied. Did you question yourself? Did you think that you knew better, and that if you had all of your angles right you could prove " it can be done"? If you know you need a traction bar than what exactly is the problem with the situation? I see everyone telling you to fix the springs, but you say thats not the problem. The driveability of the Jeep is the problem. You have the answer, maybe you should do it. Then tell us how it turns out for you. Then it can be in the " How To" section, and help people that start out like all of us do.

:light clicked on: Nevermind, your padding post's aren't you. Your really done and this is all a joke.

For cryin out loud....The title of the post is "spring over on my YJ is almost undriveable!!"

NOT--"spring over on my YJ is almost undriveable!!, please help!"
OR--"spring over on my YJ is almost undriveable!!, what should I do?"
OR--"spring over on my YJ is almost undriveable!!, all of you are vaginas!"

Sounds like he is just reaffirming what those of us with SOA's know...so what?

hmmm...nah. What if someone was contemplating a SOA and only had 200 dollars to do it? Maybe the guys like, well shoot I'll do the SOA use my $200 for shocks and supplies and be golden.....

EH-EH--the guy see's this thread, and instead of spending his 200 dollars and finding out he has spring wrap and having to drop out of college and reallocate his savings to pay for a traction bar install..........he see's this thread and doesn't waste his time. :greg: ;)

You make very good points. If said student already has a Jeep, then they probably have a higher chance of dropping out before even considering the SOA or traction bar. Also, anyone who would contemplate an SOA without prior knowledge of the need for a traction bar, is probably a newbie that hasn't found the search button that would open up his world to new and wonderous forms of technical knowledge and blunders. What a quagmire.

While I see your point, I must admit that I did the same thing...always figure why spend more money then I have to, ya know? -- Then again, I was a college student when I did my SOA (a week prior to leaving Phoenix and moving to UT) and had to wait to raise money to install a traction bar.....boy I just told my own story. If only Spence would have posted 3 years ago!!!!

person 2: yes....you retard didn't you know you needed something to protect your eyes....you moron...idiot...

person 1: yes I knew...I quite clearly stated that I needed a welding helmet to dela with the suns rays....why are you chastising me?

person 2: you idiot...why didn't you say so....

Person 1: I did....did you not hear me?

Person 2: yes but I didn't hear you....

Person 1: if this gets any more complicated...spencurai is going to delete the thread because people cant handle a simple observation without a call for help...

So.... like, when are you going to install that traction bar?

is it going to have Heims or bushings?

My springover traction bar is going to have a heim on the 'frame' end and bushings on the axle end. Probably under $50 for materials (if you've got some tube laying around), but easily under $100.
