Spring over-----Spring under

After reading the shackle thread I am just Curious what people have to say about the Spring under, Spring over thing...

I just broke a spring perch on my SOA and put it back to spring under and may consider keeping it sprung under... (ran the SOA 3 years)

Also I want to run 37" tires. Now what do I do  I have bushwacker flairs so I can do a bit of fender trimming so if I stay sprung under, what is the least amount of spring lift I could do if I wanted to have little spring lift and some cutting of fenders?

I also have a 1" body lift

Should I go back to SOA ?

So what is everyones take on both options...

get a new beefier spoa perch...My SPOA perches were WAY beefier than stock, and they need to be. The reason is because on a SPOA axle configueration MUCH more leverage is placed against the springs (reason they flex WAY better than spring under)but because of that extra leverage you will need a beefier spring perch. Get a good perch and take your time welding it on. :)

If you wanna run spring under, pony up for some really good springs. Not pro comps.

Yea if I do I may run the 4.5" extreme duty from Rubicon Express, Maybe I dunno I want to do this,NO wait maybe I will do this, or maybe even this.

I dunno I can't make up my mind..

Spring over vs spring under is really up to you.
Personally, I'd decide what you want, then call Alcan Spring in Grand junction, and have them make the springs for you.

A number of people in my club run alcans (both SUA and SOA) and LOVE them.
Alcan will make spring packs for ANY configuration you want.

One guy is running 5.5" lift Alcans SUA on his FJ40, and fits 37" tires.

For my money, I am going to run SOA on stock height alcans for ride quality. The OME's ar enice, but they aren't THAT nice...
That or I need to get a couple of heavy bumpers to weigh my truck down a bit.

The SUA or SOA is up to you.
If you can afford and wait for Alcans do it.
RE 4.5 SUA are also good springs, order monday get here in that week.
Alcans will require a little more time and info.( like to know the front end weight on axle, rear the same, accessories, spring lengths, all that good stuff and they then custom make them for your vehicle). When you get them WOW they work very well, little break in.

We will see what I do? I am still not sure. Problem I have now is low funds, and running the SOA I have 2" springs so I am at the Legel Limit of 24" with 33" tires.

    Really? You're at 24"? I thought my YJ was looking big with the 2.5" lift and SOA axles. I don't even have tires on it yet.

that seems pretty tall for that combo...I had 2.5" springs SOA (same setup Marc is refering to) and I was on 35s and I was 24" to the bottom of my rail...personally I loved that setup, I think it looked great and performed well too, and was street legal.

where are you measuring on the frame? you are supposed to measure the lowest part of the frame, which is usually in the belly pan area..
