Spring Re-arch?

Pro's Cons on doing this? I have chevy springs in the rear of my runner, I don't want to run blocks, or a longer shackle (already 8" long) But I would like to get like 1" more lift out of them to match my new shackles I put in the front.

Do spring re-arching places even provide this service? I don't want to change the spring rate, but I want a bit more arch! This will also help the shackle angle a bit more!

Everything that I've seen and heard of people doing this is bad. They CAN do it, and get more height but it will stiffen your ride severly and also after a few months they will go right back down to their original height.

8" eye to eye.

I haven't had a problem with axle wrap!

Ok, I won't get the springs re-arched. If it won't last long, then maybe I will look into getting just some lifted chevy springs or somthing.

No blocks though, even with just a 1" block I had problems, and the add a leaf just stopped ALL my flex!

honestly, this is the first time I have heard of anyone having any kind of problem with re-arching springs. Its a common practice, I dont see hopw it would stuffen your ride SEVERLY by only doing 1"...infact unless you springs are new, they prolly have quite a bit of sag in the already, just getting them freshened up will prolly give you the added height you are looking for. Most spring shops offer the re-arching service, EZ (on here) did it himself, I am pretty sure he was very happy with the results. The most reccommended shop is the one is Payson (Best Spring or something like that). I would give some spring shops a call and see what they say, get the info first hand instead of the he said she said stuff.

I had some spings rearched when I had a Jeep Cherokee. The ride was fine but they lost some of the lift after a while. They were rearched 4 inches. If you want 1" I would go 1.5". That way if you lose alittle you will still be where you want to be. I have heard better results from people that only went a couple inches. I guess 4" is alittle much when you are rearching. I had Payson spring do mine. They are pretty good with springs.

I have 5" Alcans in mine, I sent them back to Alcan last spring to get them re-arched. They added a leaf and whatever else they did. They've been fine for me, I think they've lost a little lift but thats fine with me. I think it cost around 150 bucks to have done, and I figure for an extra year out of them, hey no problem.

I am replacing them this year only because I don't want to chance breaking one on the trail. I will most likely keep them around as spares just in case the Marlins don't work out, or I put in the coilovers in my garage.

Arm and hammer baby! Arm and hammer! It worked well!
I added some leaves too, so that definately had something to do with it. I traced the arch of each leaf on a big piece of cardboard so I could compare the difference, and took a few pics which I think are toast thanks to a hard drive failure. I gained about 3" which settled back down about an inch. It worked great for me.
