BUMP! You still planning on doing this Caleb? I think that the ideal weather is still a few months away but I would like to get it on the calander if possible. It seems like my time fills up rather quickly and quite a bit in advance. :D

ABSOLUTELY! I've been buying the needed things for my bike (larger tank, a set of Wolfman bags, etc) so I can handle a trip like this. Right now I don't have any dates laid out, so I'm pretty open. The only time I can't go is when we're off to Africa, but I won't know when that is until about 2-3 weeks before hand. Lets get some dates down on the calendar.

So from the other HITR thread it sounds like May would be best? What are the thoughts on that? How many trail days would we plan? How about the weekend of May 1?

I had kind of been thinking May sometime due to weather, so that would work for me. I was thinking atleast two days on the trail. I know on a bike you can be in and out in a day, but I'd rather head in, camp then head out. Maybe even head in, camp two nights then head out.

Sadly May is no good for me, I've got trips 3 weekends already in May, a 4th one would push me over the edge :D Don't plan around me though... my schedule is hectic all spring.

Remind me what bikes you guys would be riding, anyone considering a big-bore enduro (ie a big KTM or BMW) or does everyone have pretty dirt friendly dual sports?

For this trip I plan to be on my 610 Husky. Someday I'll have a bigger bike, I've been eyeing an F800 BMW.

10-4. Smaller bikes would be far more enjoyable on a run like HITR, its got some decent little ledges, drops, etc that to me would be uncomfortable on a bigger bike and the group might move at a pretty radically contrasting pace.

I'll take a back seat and let you guys plan this. There is a super slight chance I can make it but I'll just have to see how the spring develops.

As of right now I am open to pretty much any weekend. The later in the year it gets the hotter it is likely to be but I am unfamiliar with the area and the weather there. I just know that I don't like to spend much time riding out in the desert once the mountains are open. :D I will be riding this:

Edit: I wouldn't mind 2 nights on the trail as long as it will be a friday night and saturday night. :D I can probably get off on a friday but any more than that would likely not work for me. FWIW I will be bring the bike down in the back of the truck. The ATK would not like that much freeway. :)

This date sounds interesting for me. My son is out of school the next week which would be ideal because he would like to come. I would think he would rather drive the LJ but that could make a support vehicle for us. Lane may want to drive his JK as well. I would ride my WR450 once we got to Hall Crossing.

I'm still in!

I will admit, I'm concerned that the DR650 is going to be a bit much for some of the technical areas. It's a big, heavy bike. I'm sure the bike can do it, just worried that I might not be able to.

I may ride the wife's TTR 250, but it needs a bigger tank first. It's not much for hauling gear though, so that's the tough part.

I am interested but would trailer a bike to the airport. I would be going light either riding my KDX220R or CRF250X. Neither are street legal.

Sounds good to me. At the least we could plan out a meet for the guys that want to ride in and the guys that want to trailer to the airport.

I would like to haul my bike to Lake Powell, possibly setup camp with the 4x4, then ride the bike from there.

That'd be cool if you could make it  As much as I'd like to ride my bike the whole way, I think in reality I'll end up trailering it.

It's sounding like we may have a nice little group of guys going, this is going to be awesome! :D

Hey Alan, hope all is well. You may want to give the rangers a call at Glen Canyon Nat. Rec Area. Last I heard and judging from their website once you hit the boundaries of the park you have to have a street legal machine. A group of guys from Colorado got a little heat from the Ranger down there last summer on their dirt bikes. Same situation as Maze, Canyonlands, etc... Course we could get you plated in a hurry :D

I think you are correct, from what I remember in National Parks and Nation Recreation Areas all motorized vehicles must be street legal, licensed and insured. Your advise to check with the ranger may save someone a ticket.
