ss to mild steal

i am wondering if its a realy bad idea to weld ss to mild steal for a rs on the front of my scout any know how would be great

yes...it is a bad idea, it will not work.

if you have a machine that will do spray transfer, you can get stainless to weld to mild steel. You'll need a tank of 98-2Ox to weld stainless right(you can't use 75-25). And the stainless won't be as hard and will rust to on the weld surface to the depth of penetration, so you'll need to do some painting.

use 309 SS wire, its made for joining desimler metals like mild steel ( A36 ) to 304 ( or higher grades ) SS steels, jason.

I worked at a fab shop for several years and we built miles of Beams with stainless rails and mild steel flanges. Built to there specs the worked great. Also several other projects like that.

yea tig works fine but wire feed is a no go because your adding material and it bonds differently to the two types of steel

Yeah I'm going to have to agree. Man it's hard to use a Mig when Tig is sooo nice. When's the last time anyone welded without a smock, and no gloves with a Mig and enjoyed it?
